Restaurants & Food / Helping our neighbors in need
« on: April 23, 2020, 02:07:26 AM »
Apparently all of the food banks are shut down.
Many of our neighbors depend on them.
Is there any way we can reach out to help them?
Are the supermarkets willing to set aside some products and time slots?
Am willing to do what I can (even it means line cooking).

Restaurants & Food / Issues with Fresh Direct
« on: January 06, 2019, 10:06:22 PM »
Has anyone else noticed that since Fresh Direst moved they have tanked.

Scheduled delivery times are a joke.  My 5 - 7 PM today, when I called at 7:30pm, was scheduled for 9:30 at the earliest.

More items are missing from the order when delivered.

Several weeks ago, only my frozen items arrived.  The rest were lost.  FD agreed to replace the order the next day, only some items were no longer available.  Then they double billed me for a hand full or items.

Too many items are unavailable without recourse ( I ordered 3 specific items I needed to make a particular dish, I got one; what was I supposed to do with it?)

Is there another online vendor of quality?

Restaurants & Food / New Peking Kitchen
« on: September 06, 2018, 10:23:56 PM »
Noticed over several days that there is no Health Dept Inspection posted.

Health Dept site says:  "Not yet Inspected".

Clicking on a restaurant name usually brings up their history.  There is nothing for this place.

They're been there (under that name) for at least 20 years.

They've been closed at least once.

How can this place have no history?

Neighborhood Chat / Leaf blower noise
« on: April 30, 2015, 08:16:18 PM »
The leaf blowers have begun early this season.

Why do they wait until its dark and late and folks are trying to relax to blow their trash around?  They can't possibly see what they're doing.

Restaurants & Food / Food Pantries
« on: January 09, 2015, 09:17:04 PM »
I'd like to remind everyone that we still have neighbors who might need a little help getting by.
I'm sure we all have something in our cupboards we're not using.

There are several food pantries you can bring non-perishable foods to.  I'm familiar with St. Mark's:

http://saintmarks.net/events.html

I understand that St. Joan of Arc has one also.  The local Senior Citizen Centers might also take your donations.

A bag of rice and a bag of beans might make the difference.

Remember,

We could all be there one day.

Have a Healthy and Safe New Year.

Restaurants & Food / Mi Tierra on Northern Blvd and 81st St.
« on: January 09, 2015, 08:46:28 PM »
Is it just me or have other people noticed this store going downhill?

1.  Unpleasant odor in the back where meat and dairy sections intersect
2.  Funky fresh vegetables
3.  Boxes of mdse/displays on floor blocking the aisles
4.  Broken/missing floor tiles
5.  Usually only 2 registers open no matter how crowded.

Neighborhood Chat / Food Pantry
« on: June 08, 2014, 01:56:22 PM »
The Girl Scouts were at the Market this morning collecting donations and food for their Food Pantry.
I don't think the girls can be a physical presence every week but perhaps there can be a box for packaged food at the information stand.
