Neighborhood Chat / Little Elms Childcare Center closing- please help!!

After more than 10 years serving families in Queens, Bright Horizons decided to close its Little Elms childcare center and leave families and educators in the lurch, giving only 8 weeks notice for closure and firing the entire staff with a pathetic severance package. Working families in Jackson Heights/Elmhurst have relied on Little Elms as one of the area's few infant care options and the Center's staff gives this neighborhood a collection of great memories and education to our children.
BH has walked from a rent/utility-free deal with Elmhurst Hospital after asking for $50,000 and claiming its center was not financially viable after an increase in the minimum wage. Before this abrupt decision, BH did not inform parents nor staff of contractual difficulties with the hospital and has not provided solutions to transfer children nor staff in a reasonable timeframe.
Little Elms parents are mobilizing our representatives, the press, and all parents in the area who understand the importance of quality childcare options for our families.
