A reminder about tonight's town hall for New York Senate District 13. Will our Senator show up?

"Senator Peralta promised his constituents a town hall after the budget was completed to revisit his decision to align himself with the controversial Independent Democratic Conference. Constituents are now holding that town hall with or without Senator Peralta.

Come out for an evening of discussion on the IDC, the recent budget and legislative session and how Trumps agenda impacts the citizens of District 13."

Neighborhood Chat / Re: TAX MARCH
« on: April 12, 2017, 08:13:50 AM »
If you would like to join Jackson Heights residents and members of the Jackson Heights Resistance FB Group at the Tax March, we are organizing to get together to travel in to Bryant Park together. This is a great way to meet your neighbors, make friends, and form connections with people who similarly oppose the Trump regime. Please join us here:

Please note we got the date wrong when we first posted about this event. The conference about the IDC and the New York State Senate hosted by the Queens County Young Democrats is this evening.

If you are interested in coming, please join the group and RSVP:

If you would like to participate in the Ides of Trump, folks with postcards and stamps will be at Espresso 77 tonight from 6:30-7 pm. Small donations will be accepted to cover the printing and postage costs (about 75 cents a card)

Here is the idea. Stop by if you are interested:

On March 15th, 2017 each of us will mail the White House a postcard that publicly expresses our vocal opposition to the new president. And we, in vast numbers, from all corners of the world, will overwhelm Washington. We will show the man, the media, and the politicians how vast our numbers are and we will bury the White House post office in pink slips, all informing the President that he’s fired!

Hosted by Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD)

Our State Senate currently hosts 32 members elected as Democrats, and 31 members elected as Republicans. However, despite what appears to be a Democratic majority, progressive policies and legislation in Albany have been gridlocked for years. Democrats in the Senate currently fall into three categories:

-- Senators aligning themselves with the mainline Democratic conference, of which there are twenty-three (23).
-- Senators belonging to the IDC, who were elected as Democrats but vote for the Republican leadership, of which there are eight (8).
-- Senator Simcha Felder, a registered Democrat elected on both Democrat and Republican lines who votes for the Republican Leadership (1).

Come learn about the current situation, how we got here, and discuss steps to take action at this special upcoming meeting.

Neighborhood Chat / Francisco Moya Townhall last night
« on: March 10, 2017, 10:40:46 AM »
We received reports that Moya held a townhall last night at the Renaissance School, and that Jose Peralta made an appearance. We do not see this event listed on Moya's FB page or on his website with the NY State Assembly.

Can anyone else confirm this happened?

FYI: On March 11, 4:30 pm, the ACLU is holding a Resistance Training. This event will launch People Power, the ACLU’s new effort to engage grassroots volunteers across the country and take the fight against Donald Trump’s policies not just into the courts, but into the streets. We’re organizing grassroots events in communities across the country to watch the livestream together. Please join us!

Register here (not sure what the maximum capacity is): https://go.peoplepower.org/event/attend/1968/signup/

As always, you can join the Jackson Heights Resistance FB group to find out about events and action in our neighborhood and to connect with local resisters. https://www.facebook.com/groups/JacksonHeightsResistance/

If you are looking for a resource for how to resist the Republican Administration's agenda, which includes taking action at the state and local level, was well as connect with your neighbors, please consider joining:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/JacksonHeightsResistance/

This is a closed and moderated group. Anyone can find the group and see who is in it, but only members can see posts.

If you have information about action the group and individuals can take at the state senate level, that would be an excellent place to mobilize local residents in to action.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Re: House res 111 a vote on Trumps corruption
« on: February 28, 2017, 08:23:27 AM »
Crowley is a cosponsor of this resolution.

We have a local FB Group for those interested in opposing the Trump agenda.  The focus is on providing practical calls to action for active resistance and the federal, state, and local level. Resisting the Republican administration's agenda is a bit more complicated when one lives in an area where your local representatives in Congress are the opposition, so for anyone who is at a loss as to what to do, our group may be quite useful to you.
