In #279 there is a list of old PS 69ers most of whom I don't know or at least whose names strike no chords

"Name dropping:  (PS69 regulars) the legendary, ageless Bob Polachek, Bert Lowenstein, Richie and Bobby Rubino, Charlie Berry, Steve Feldstein, Demarco, Egrie, Sid and Dave Daniels, Alec Myers, Neubauer, Allen, the Brigands (Buster CEO), Chester Lumish.....".

Despite that there  were a few who I did recall-the Rubino Brothers, Richie Neubauer, the Brigands, and of course Chester(or has he preferred, Chet Lumish) who I knew very well. However it was Alec Myers who I wondered about who I also knew well when we both attended Bryant H.S and we were involved in the Drama Group. Anyone know anything about him now?

Alec was a huge Brooklyn Dodgers fan who moved to the Heights from Brooklyn.  I would add Bobby Allen and Healy to that list.  And Dennis Malpetey (sp), Skippy Murphy, John Connolly. Kevin Young.

Morris twins - No mention of Budd's on 37th Avenue?  Attracted kids from all over Queens. Summertime you'd run into beach goers from Rockaway who came to Budd's after a day at the beach.  Now that's a popular watering hole.

Bobby Rubino's widow put me onto this site.  Bobby passed away in August of last year.

My question is this.  Shouldn't we all be using our real names here instead of "handles"?  Bit of a mystery why discussions include so many familiar old names except for the posters.

Some I can figure out like Nagel....... I recall he had a red headed older brother who wasn't a yard regular but whom I never saw in a pair of sneakers. Only black dress shoes.

I thought some of you old time JH folks would appreciate the recent post from my photography blog:

Enjoy

Nicely done.  Zero out of 400.  Wow! There was a bakery next to Meyer's correct?  My Dad would bring home an assortment of sweet buns on Saturday mornings from there (although Nellie Spears was his favorite)

My Mom was horrified by all the retail street displays she witnessed a few years back.  She considered it an end to genteel Jackson Heights and typical of Delancey St on the LES of Manhattan. She was on the Altar Guild at St. Marks Episcopal Church (Protestants were a minority in the Heights except for a small square of garden apartments between 75th and 82nd streets, north of 37th avenue and south of Northern Blvd.)

I used to go in there for shoe shines as well
As shoe repairs

Shoe shine booths were in the rear of the store.  As a kid, amazed at how many shoe nails the cobbler could hold in his mouth at one time while hammering in new heels. Front of shop had a hat steaming machine.  Castlewood Mkt next door with one of those delivery bicycles with the huge basket in front and the smaller front wheel.

There was a bar near the corner of 37th ave and 74th st called Maxels. Nice little place

Nice little spot.  15 cent draughts and every 4th on the house.

I believe he had an older brother whose claim to fame was that he consumed a 1/2 dozen martinis at the Continental (37th Ave, between 82 and 83) and walked home.

Had another kid who grew up in Jackson Heights put me onto this site. I'll start off with the "twin thing" as my brother Dick and I did so much stuff together back in the day.

Where: both 37-05 79th and 37-06 80th.
School: SJA (on the white shirt), 8th grade mixed (there was an all boys class), 1956
Hangouts: lots of sports at the PS69 schoolyard.  Even played hardball in the grassy lots next to the post office until hitting the ball onto 37th avenue became too easy. Went away to school in 1960 so never really got into the Budd's (regular) crowd.
