Restaurants & Food / Pizza Boy
« on: May 11, 2021, 02:47:30 PM »
I admit I don't eat pizza too often even though I love it. I went to Pizza Boy yesterday for the first time in a couple of months and it was so much better than usual. I didn't recognize the guy who was making the pizza, so I guess they have a new pizza chef. The crust actually had some flavor instead of tasting like a matzoh cracker, the sauce was good and it was just all-around really good. I ordered two regular slices; I don't think I've ever had a baby pizza.

Has anyone else noticed this or did I just get lucky?

Washington Plaza has great soundproofing for the apartments next door, but not vertically. My upstairs neighbor didn't have padding under his thin area rugs and it was maddening - my ceiling light fixture made jangling sounds every time he walked through his dining area and it sounded like an airplane hangar every time he vacuumed. I am pretty noise-tolerant but it became unbearable after a while. It's not as bad now that he was made to get carpet pads but I can still hear him slamming cabinets and stomping around. The people next door have parties that I barely hear but I can hear the dude upstairs sneeze. Weirdly, I rarely hear his tv or music.

Honestly, it's my biggest annoyance living here (along with the poor ventilation - if your neighbor smokes you will smell it like it's in your own apartment).

However, if you purchase a unit you can probably pay a little more to have extra padding added when they replace the flooring.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Advice for dealing with loud, partying neighbors?

I'm late to this thread, but you can call the non-emergency number for the police instead of 311. The vast majority of calls to 311 are for noise complaints and it doesn't seem to be an effective method, unfortunately.

I do think that reaching out to their management company is a good start. Especially if they are made aware you will start calling the police every time it happens going forward.

Neighborhood Chat / Eddie van Halen's death has triggered something
« on: October 10, 2020, 06:10:11 PM »
The untimely death of Eddie Van Halen must have really done a job on one of my neighbors. He has been playing the electric guitar really loudly since the day he died and it goes on for hours. I assume amplifiers have volume control but I guess his only goes to 11.

Anyway, dude, if you are reading this, please take pity on your neighbors and give it a rest or at least shut your windows. You are not talented enough for the daily concert you subject us to.

RIP Eddie

A different coworker just said that he thinks the main one downtown is closing - he is no longer working from home and our window faces one of their exits - he said that there are big signs up that they are liquidating their stock and sees people leaving with piles and piles of stuff they bought.

I am so upset by this! I used to live a block away from their world trade center location and still work right next door. I went there for everything.

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Burglary Attempt

I lived in DC during the crack years and have been mugged twice and burglarized. I ended up slashing the burglar's fingers pretty bad with a knife as he was attempting to gain entry and didn't get in a bit of trouble except that my university charged me to clean the small amount of blood off the carpet (off-campus student housing, I was in college at the time).

Beech Court, I'm glad you are ok and thank you for the warning! I just went to make sure my fire escape window is locked.

I don't know of any besides K&L. But what is a chopped cheese sandwich? I've never heard of it and am curious.

Thanks for posting this. I saw it yesterday and was depressed to see that most of these people are unemployed. I hope the guy who was on his way to a job interview gets the job offer! I have to take the subway today for the first time in months and am dreading it. Stupid dental emergency.

I can't believe our lawmakers' advice was to go talk to our neighbors and shame them into stopping. Yeah, like I'm going to take a risk like that. I'm glad that people are pushing back.

I don't hear them as much now that I have my a/c running more, but the ones last night seemed pretty close (low 70s). I feel bad for the dogs and babies.
