Thanks Citizen and ECG,
Yes, this is the very purpose of a community blog.
We are piloting in JH because this is our community and also because there are many young parents who might benefit from this.

Neighborhood Chat / ecoMUKTI Gifts - made in JH
« on: January 29, 2014, 09:02:21 PM »
Jackson Heights Friends,

We're excited to share with you that our startup, ecoMUKTI Gifts, is in limited beta test phase, and is being piloted, right here in JH.

Here is what ecoMUKTI Gifts offers:

1. The Virtual Village.

ecoMUKTI Gifts provides the opportunity for friends and family to gift experiences to a child, like dance classes or piano lessons, instead of toys, on their next birthday or special holiday.  Through an online platform that serves as a gift registry of sorts, you can invite friends and family into your "virtual village", so that they can participate in fostering your child's talents and dreams.

2. Pooling Resources for Greater Impact.

For example, 10 friends or family members contributing $20/each might collectively buy 3 guitar classes etc, instead of buying 10 toys, which captivate for a short while, and almost always end up in the landfill.

3. The Marketplace.

We need your help in identifying local service providers - from storytellers to yoga instructors, musicians to martial arts, math tutors to karate teachers, and more.  Do you have a skill and love to work with kids? We're looking for small businesses, in addition to independent artists.  We're also incentivizing early adopters through the end of February 2014.

We would love to hear from you: your ideas, vendors, and interest in being an early adopter.  Submit info. via this form <http://form.jotformpro.com/form/40287476557971>

It virtually does take a village. Hope that you will join us strengthen our community and inspire neighborhood kids.

No.  The Chili Salon is taking a break until the Spring 2011.

Chili Friends, Chili Familia -

We're changing things up a bit.

1. We want to spend more energy curating quarterly salons and less time on the hustle of monthly coordination.
We also had the brilliant opportunity to learn/witness from the Brooklyn Photo Salon, which is the inspiration for the Chili Salon.

2. We're changing, but that doesn't mean we're going to be quiet.
We want to use the blog as an interactive medium to chat up neighborhood artists and cover local arts events.Keep us posted on whether
you are doing a subway performance, street fair, crafts market, or gallery opening. Or if you have been quietly working in your studio and want to
get your work out. We will cover it at: http://chilisalon.blogspot.com/

3. Send us your ideas, energy and inspiration.  What type of arts programming do you want to see in the neighborhood?

Over the last year, we were blessed to have over 40 Queens artists featured at the Chili Art Salon. We heard from poets, singers and dancers,
violinists and a DJ.  We listened to stories from India, Malaysia, Panama, Ecuador, Korea, and Sierra Leone. We viewed photography from the world over,
watched non-actors take the stage in live theater and finished the year with Diverse Earth celebration,  a vibrant multi-cultural festival to honor Mother Earth.

Thanks so much for your support and desire to make these salons come to life!

You'll be hearing from us soon.

ARTISTS SIGN-UP NOW:

Each month's salon will feature 2-3 emerging or established artists.  We encourage artists of any discipline that allows you to demonstrate your work in an intimate setting, followed by a short Q & A.  We will prioritize artists who live and create art in Queens, as the intention behind this gathering is to showcase the great work coming out of the borough, to inspire new collaborative work, and to ignite the artist within all of us.  You are welcome to share a new work or solicit feedback for a work-in-progress.

In the past we have had poets, painters, authors, filmmakers, photographers, musicians and performance artists. http://chilisalon.blogspot.com/
Please let us know if you would like to present your work at the October salon.
