Neighborhood Chat / Re: Frederick Wiseman movie: In Jackson Heights

Straight from the horse's mouth - he was skyped from Paris on Sunday where he is working on his
Jackson Heights film. It's close to finished and will likely be around 3hrs and 10minutes. Look for a
Fall 2015 showing most likely at a NYC Film Festival according to others at the screening of his film
"Hospital" at MOMI in Astoria.
  C'est magnifique Frederick Wiseman!

Yes, the tours are here this lovely weekend! Snoop on all of your neighbors, go inside where you are usually
uninvited. See the gorgeous gardens, our fine architecture and get a sense of the vibe in each building. A real
insiders view of Jackson Heights with our one of a kind historian, Daniel Karatzas. Check the JHBG website
for more details.
hint- go early for tickets as it was on the NYTimes 2015 list of local tours not to miss!

Put it on the calendar right away! Great book sale as these folks are serious readers- as in lot's of good
books in all categories. Bargains galore especially those looking for childrens books and contemporary
literature/classics.

Restaurants & Food / Re: Casa Del Chef Bistro in Woodside

Agreed. Nice one NYT. Hopefully this brings the clientle that Casa Del Chef Bistro is aiming for. So often it seems that the next thing you read after an ambitious restaurant opens here, is that is amazing- or it closed- in too short a time for a business to really find its groove.

Neighborhood Chat / Street Tree Care with JHBG

Take a walk in the lower 70's soon and see how the smallish group of all age volunteers revived
tree pits in this heavily congested area- 45 tree pits in one day!!! It's a real accomplishment
by a group that covers the whole of Jackson Heights and tries to augment city services to
make our neighborhood better in their backyard and yours. Hats off to these folks. www.jhbg.org

Oh yeah, they also have the NYRP Million Trees FREE Tree Giveaway coming up this weekend. Register soon! As of this writing, there were only 33 trees left to sign on for at:

Restaurants & Food / Re: Reservations
« on: March 24, 2015, 07:02:21 AM »
Rules turn me off period. Going out to eat is a pleasure in my family as we cook often and easily at home. The more rules, the less relaxation. This sends us to more informal but equally tasty food which is in abundance here. Maybe the ambiance won't be as nice but it's a small trade-off. We often decide to go out late in the afternoon when the best idea of energy/time for everyone is more of a known quantity.
Voting NO on reservations/charges/too many rules.

Saw a night of the Queens Film Festival last year and they were fantastic. Great mix and lot's to think about
plus a Q&A after giving insight to the process. I do think it would help advertise the films here in JH if the
specific showings here were pulled out of the bigger programs and listed separately. Makes one less job to
find 'em. Lazy I know but...

Less than one week ago, at this same intersection, Mary Cox was directing traffic and it was students who
were crossing every which way into the street. She did some eyerolling in my direction. Mary was telling
them to hurry and cross but it was chaotic mainly from kids who were really not watching traffic while
crossing a busy intersection. I hope she has a speedy recovery and that the kids realize the need to be
alert there.

Pat Glunt honored! She's a neighborhood treasure and we are so much better for her having brought
an ORCHESTRA to Jackson Heights. Nice to see credit given where it is so deserved.

What a lovely night for a spring concert tonight right here in Jackson Heights with our fine local talent.
Pat Glunt leads your neighbors in a community orchestra that is a treasure. The violin solist is supposed
to be fantastic.
 See you there at 7:30!

I would suggest going there between 11-1 on Saturday until it really is warmer consistently. Then they expand
the hours.

Thanks Matt for posting. April 12th gives the community enough time to schedule participation even if it is
farther down the line on decisions now.

What leads you to believe that toddg is part of this group and responsible for notifying the community?
I am also thanking Toddg for posting this! Precisely my point. Through three different sources
that I follow - including this site- I saw the news of this event only today. Just curious why something
that so many of us care about flew under the radar till now. And thanks to Toddg we had a heads up!
