If you get a good one:  yes.  The Austin Air purifier is what the Red Cross distributed to residents in the downtown Manhattan area after 9/11.   I had two in my 3-story home in Brooklyn during a major (v. dusty) renovation project.  To boot, I was a smoker, fiancee was not.  Cleared up mostly everything, including his bitching.  They're not cheap ($400-$500) nor small (about 24"x24" sq.).  But they do roll on casters and they do work.  They're not quiet when running on high...Filters are about $180, and those should be replaced every 1 - 3 years depending on the kind of air you're cleaning. 

I use a guy named Mark.  He lives in Jackson Heights. I don't want to post his cell here without asking but his email is teedoff6@hotmail.com.  He just painted and tiled my apt and did an excellent job.

I also had the same Mark [Caban] over for a long list of "honey-do" things I just didn't want to stress over.  Great guy.  Easy-going, efficient, very professional, v. reasonable rates.  And skilled.  Will def. have him back over for a few more things.  Did I mention that he brought over pastries from his favorite bakery?  teedoff6@hotmail.com is indeed his email!
