Neighborhood Chat / Attempted Carjacking: 37th Avenue
« on: October 31, 2021, 10:06:04 AM »
Residents beware, attempted carjacking early this morning around 12:05am on 37th Avenue (between 87th and 86th streets) south side of the street. A late model white sedan aggressively pulled up to our car and a man jumped out and started to pull on the door handles demanding to let him in multiple times and started to bang on the car window, while the white sedan sped off towards 88th street. The 115th precinct won’t do anything since the car was not stolen and no one was hurt (thankfully). This happened next to an NYPD camera.

« on: August 21, 2016, 12:52:00 AM »
Update:
The truck was back on Thursday (37th Ave between 82nd & 83rd Street) with a back-up gas generator sitting on the side of this unattended truck....blowing fumes through the night.
Could Peralta or Danny do anything regarding this?
This is unsafe for pedestrians and drivers.....the fumes make it even worst.  >:(

The New York Times Printing Facility in College Point would be an excellent choice. They seem to be trying to get out of their lease for years. There is access to the public transportation via the 7 train and a bus shuttle, similar to Ikea Red Hook. Easy access for drivers, right off of the Whitestone Expressway and in close proximity to other retailers (BJ's Wholesale Club, Target, Toys R'Us, TJMaxx, PC Richards, Modell's), and plenty of space for parking.

For the past two weeks an ad truck for Major World has been parking on 37th Avenue from 82nd - 85th Street throughout the night.

The problem with this truck is the massive and intrusive size of the video screens that are displaying these ad’s. The truck is clad with giant screens on each of it’s “white box” sides while playing music.

Other than being “visual pollution” to our community, this truck also poses a safety risk for our pedestrians and drivers. The light and glow emanating from these screens are blinding when driving past them and have the same effect when crossing the street as a pedestrian.

Is this illegal for Major World to do?

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Graffiti Surge

I did see this earlier today as well  :( . Also, there has been a surge in bill posting on vacant storefronts. I feel i am removing ...more and more each day. I wish there was something we could do . Perhaps 115th is now focusing on Roosevelt Ave over 37th & 35th  :o .
Apologies for prior typos since I am posting on the go .

Neighborhood Chat / Graffiti Surge
« on: April 27, 2013, 10:44:52 AM »
Hello All,
Over the past couple of months there has been a huge surge in graffiti right of 37th avenue from 87th Street to 81st Street. Every time I walk past those streets I seems to spot a new tag. I know the the beautification group does graffiti cleaning and you could report it to 311. But, what can we do for an immediate fix. I would be more than willing to volunteer to clean it my self of I had the supply's to do so. I think now more than ever our nabe should be spotless.

Neighborhood Chat / Man on 84th and 37th ave
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:05:42 PM »
There is an older man who sits under the scaffold at the construction site every weekday morning. The problem with this is that not only is panhandling, but he always is drinking beer and leaves the area he lounges in a filthy mess. Not only do I dislike the mess and having a man drunk by 9am on our streets, but I fear what type of danger he might pose to our community.  :-\

WOW you are a huge jerk ! >:(
just like Divanatrix said before all of your rants are BS and not only that but they are ignorant and downright wrong.
Have you tried going around to collect bottles to make a living? Some of these people wake up around 5am or before to collect these bottles and make a living and I know this because I have spoken to some of the hardworking people who come to my building to collect our recycling and they do not like doing this, nor do they dream of this .But, they have to do so to put food on the table . Also trust me they do not make $2,000 a month your calculations are just as foolish as your arguments . Try to not be such a selfish human being and put yourself in their position . Personally if I had a jerk like you take my picture and my child's and post it on a forum on the internet I would be furious . If your so unhappy with everything that goes on here maybe NYC is not the place for you .

Seriously whats your point , I find this borderline messed up to take pictures as such even if the faces are censured . How is this "New Economy in JH" bottle recycling is an honest living that is popular in most parts of NYC by people who live in nabes around these communities. This has gone on forever for more than twenty years in many states . I truly do not understand that point of this posting  :o

I haven't seen this, but is the furniture out on display on the street, or is the store receiving/making a furniture delivery?
On display, they receive the deliveries and such through the back.

That house on 86st has been like that since the late 90's; is so sad and whats worst is those disgusting multifamily buildings ; btw all of the houses on that block are land marked so thats good and the house with the mentally challenged adults is in great shape like always.

Good news is that the furniture store and liquor store that were destroyed in the fire found some new spaces...between 86th and 85th street- former Cavalier and hairdresser location.
Yea the furniture store found a place , but I do not think its the same people though. Because the "furniture" they sell at this new place is total garbage not only that but there is furniture all over the street and the corner , what a P.O.S this thing is; a real eyesore . Seriously when is JH going to look decent retail wise , big national chains or no chains our retail is crap . I'm beginning to think JH is just a big old lost cause of crappy looking retail with the exception of couple of storefronts .

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Neighborhood empty storefronts
« on: March 30, 2010, 08:46:29 PM »
85-15 37th Avenue.  Just curious... anyone familiar with this address?   ???  I just came across some information from the NYC Department of Buildings website stating the following on a recently issued permit:

"INSTALL WASHER AND DRYER MACHINE IN LAUNDROMAT STORE ON 1ST FLOOR AND INSTALL SLOP SINK AND HOT WATER HEATER ON CELLAR. NO CHANGE OF USE, EGRESS OR OCCUPANCY."

I may be wrong, but I don't recall there being a laundromat on that strip.  Isn't that the block with all the empty storefronts (Cavalier, Don Francisco, etc.)?

That is exactly the empty Fashion Shoes storefront , I guess we might be getting some Dry Cleaner of sorts , since it only mentions a singular dryer & washer machine
