Can anyone recommend an accountant in the neighborhood who might have  experience with the US tax consequences of foreign real estate transactions?

Chivito de Oro and La Porteña are good options. I've found the skirt steak at "El Coyote" being excellent as well.

Does anyone know about a mechanic they can recommend for a used car inspection pre-purchase? Someone local would be preferable.
Thanks!

Yes, it seems pretty far, not sure if I want to walk 15 blocks every time I need the car. Do you know how much they ask for renting the spot? Just in case I get to desperate and start considering it :)
Thanks!

Neighborhood Chat / Re: Do you have a playroom in your building???

Yes, it was indeed very enlightening Marlene, thank you very much for sharing all the info.
It actually opens new possibilities that I didn't even consider.
I love the idea of the reading, arts and craft activities, it takes the concept to a whole new level. Granted it will require volunteers for it, but I can imagine people getting involved.
I'm very impressed about the Berkeley's board!! It seems that they are working very hard in improving the residents' life's (it almost makes me wish we looked into real state there  ;))
But most importantly it gives me hope that the board in my building will be more receptive than I thought, hopefully I can share the news that it will be possible someday soon.
If Marlene or anyone else can send some pics of the Berkeley's activity room I would much appreciate it !
Thanks to all!!!

Well, kids in the garden is different though, their voices and laughs carry trough the windows in the building and it can be noisy, not to mention the danger of the poor plants, I wouldn't like kids unsupervised in our garden either.
There's when a playroom becomes a great idea, by letting the kids to have a space for themselves and beyond the sight and ears of those who doesn't have kids (basements are great for that).

I did some research about the insurance issue and it appears that as soon as the kids are supervised by an adult at all times while being in the playroom it would not increase the insurance. There's no greater insurance risk than if they were moving along the corridors or elevators.

Also, it is a trend in Manhattan and having a playroom for the kids in your building does increase the value of the property as well as being used as a sell point.

The biggest obstacle to a playroom/gym is always the space for it, so if your building counts with one it's not really expensive to start with the basics.

I know there's some buildings in the area that have them. I would so much like to have a glimpse of them to have an idea.

Hi,
I'm a new mom who recently moved to the neighborhood and I'm very interested in proposing my building's board a playroom for the kids. Soon the winter will fall on us and there's not going to be the "going to the park" option.
Do any of you have one in your building? and if so, does it work properly and is popular with the building's kids?
I would love if you would share with me some pictures and ideas.
