I'd don't think that Starbucks will do well here, and I think the neighborhood is smarter than that. But maybe not. You can't really get a cup of coffee and get on the crowded trains anyway. Lost cause.

You can't beat Dunkin Donuts for a good cup of coffee at a reasonable price.

Avela, I agree with you 100%.  On this chilly morning, my Dunkin French vanilla coffee along with my toasted wheat bagel sure made me feel warm and cozy.   :)  And a nice price too!

I saw four men inside the rumored site of Starbucks today, appearing as if they were contractors or workers, though I didn't actually see what they were doing.  Maybe it will actually open someday.

Yes, work is finally under way, thank heaven, and it is going to be a Starbucks.

I moved here a number of years ago, and I've been eagerly anticipating such a development, together with many longtime residents of my acquaintance. It's crucial that the commercial sector in this neighborhood be more balanced so that it serves the entire spectrum of people who live here. What we really need is a clean, attractive supermarket like Food Emporium. Starbucks is an extremely good first step, however. It's nice to finally have Fresh Direct service, but a physical, "bricks-and-mortar" presence of more attractive and upscale stores is crucial.

I think starbucks will do well, as it's a name, and it's located close enough to the hospital for the employees there to patronize it. This is in addition to those who live in the community.

I'm hoping the outside isn't the typical Starbucks cookie cutter design that I've seen all over Manhattan. I've read that the JHBG is being active in how the outside will look. I was thinking something along the lines of this:

That's stunning; I certainly hope so. The Queensboro Corp. Building originally had similar windows with divided lights. 

One of the best things about Starbucks is that its stores are not franchises, but are run directly by the company. Therefore, product standards are reliable, being consistently high throughout the chain. Best of all, because of its thorough market research, the company tends to serve as a "green light" for other desirable businesses, which are so desperately needed in a neighborhood dominated by shabby stores.
