No food!  tallman, I can't drink without eating.  At least have peanuts in barrels or popcorn.

Has anyone been to Mystic Planet on Northern bet. 85/84th Streets???   It's loungey inside with back yard dining.  I want to go check it out soon.  But I'm curious if anyone's been there yet.
First, do no harm.

I just walked past that the other day, but couldn't see inside.  It looks interesting from the outside, so I'm gonna check it out soon hopefully.

The Cavaliar was surprisingly jumping tonight for St. Patty's Day.  Lots of green hats, neon wrist bands, Irish Music but the thing that surprised and impressed me the most:  corned beef and cabbage and fish and chips were TERRIFIC.  Seriously, terrific.  Corned beef was tender and the fish and chips portion was huge and well done.  Very happy we went local instead of to Donovan's in Woodside.

Now yes, Cavaliar is an older crowd but it was lively nevertheless.  Don't know what it's like on regular week nights.  Tonight was just perfect for the occasion.  Pleasantly surprised.

And call me a traditionalist, but a bar doesn't serve food.  A restaurant serves food,

Up until the early 80's a Bar in NY was known as a Bar and Grill and they were required to serve food---usually a roast beef or a baked ham--in order to maintain their liquor license.  Not a bad idea....

And would frozen pizzas count to qualify?

I didn't know about that law.  I just went to one of my favorite bars in Manhattan and forgot that they have a small buffet spread out in the early afternoons.

So I amend my rule, a bar CAN serve food, but CAN NOT have a menu.

I can live with this.  After all, Legends has amazing food, but the only menu is a take-out menu.

Its not in JH but close enough if you ask me...on 114Th corner of 37Th Ave!

The Pine at the Holiday inn (used to be the Ramada)  It can get really busy on weekends but you meet lots of out of towners (is that a word?), flight stewardess, Pilots and you get a great view of the Stadium.  Good Italian and American fair.  They have a free buffet daily as well after 5pm.  Also serves family style Italian in the dining room   The large square bar has a sports theme (Mets mostly) and you get lots for your money.  Ask for Chuck if you want to have a big party and there is a large conference room in the back that can be rented with any event you want...Great for a birthday or company party.

It is open for breakfast and if you have a friend that needs to stay at a close-by hotel the rates start at about $99 per night.  Sometimes my cousins come from out of state and they stay there for the night.

I like it! :D

How is parking for those who don't stay at the hotel but dine or drink there?

Legends has a menu for dining in and a take out menu.  They are essentially the same.

Eddiestjohn,

Good question, Just pull up to the open lot and find a spot or go to the covered parking below.  They won't stop you and if for any reason there is a security outside and they ask if you are staying (99% chance this wont happen) you simply say you are going to pine or better yet say you are going to see Chuck.  Everyone eats there, employees as well so they wont care.  I often find myself hanging out in the lobby waiting for a friend and I have never ever been asked anything.  I often go by chance and rarely plan on going but may find myself there 3 or 4 times monthly.  Gigantic Parmesan sandwiches and other fare at the bar as well but take advantage of the small buffet  if you aren't at the dining room.

Random and maybe a bit nerdy?

Anyone know what places around here have a dart board??

Legends does, but the few times I've been in there for bbq, the people playing darts had to stop because of the eat-in bbq crowd. (It got too hectic for the nice waitress to maneuver around them for menus etc)

Either way - if anyone's into darts and wants to shoot sometime, PM me!  I need more dart buddies and my league season is winding down in the next few weeks.

I'm not a bar scene kind of guy but I did do plenty of hopping in my 20's and early 30's.  I had a 3 favorite places in the city and in Queens it was in Woodside (Donovan's was a regular lunch place for me in early 20's) and a place that my friend owned in Corona at the time known as Meson de Espana before he passed (I dated quite a bit at the time) when I was younger.  I also had a couple of places in the Bronx whenever I was either doing some work in the area and whenever I wanted to listen to Jazz without the dollars associated with it the city I went Joe's Steak House to chill.

As per the darts I can only remember Toucans Tommy but I think they are in Woodside.

Our inaugural beer menu (all in bottles):
Hitachino Nest White Ale

and a nod to the kid in all of us, Abita Root Beer

Hope to see you in the shop!

wow, that is very interesting...
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I've only heard of Victory and Abita Root Beer. I wonder the prices on these.

I'm intrigued.  :-\
