justmade4U for sale
« on: January 11, 2013, 10:05:40 PM »
I saw that Justmade4u is for sale after only 1 1/2 years.  I have to be honest I never ate there.  The price is $240,000 and they supposedly have a "reasonable" 8 1/2 years left on their lease.   The owners are evidently relocating.  The price seems very high to me unless the lease deal is fantastic.  You could probably open a similar store in a vacant storefront  with just the equipment costs and no purchase price. I would never open a business unless I knew I could last for few years.  The start-up costs  and personal investment are too much. Although sometimes re-locations are not planned but a necessity if a family member is sick or a spouse has a job opportunity or transfer.

that's really, really sad. i really don't understand why the business conditions on 37th avenue are so tough that earnest small businesses get driven out.  while i don't think just made 4 u was perfect by any means, they tried SO hard. as a juice nut that loves organic avenue and similar establishments in manhattan they've pretty much made every suggestions i've ever given to them for me. i also appreciated how their attempts at healthy foods bridged the tastes of the overall neighborhood demographic - it wasn't a manhattan/brooklyn 'health' food place that i could get a macrobiotic lunch plate like i could with kale, quinoa and chickpeas and goji berries and stuff, but it was a place that had light, fresh salads with nicely flavored shrimp and chicken that i saw many locals enjoying. they really tried and obviously saw a need in this neighborhood. really sad they couldn't make it work.

It is indeed sad because they are lovely people. But it was clear from the get-go that this was the first such business they've owned. As for the purchase price, yes, it's high; but what you are buying is the lease. If the rent is reasonable, it wouldn't be so simple just to find another place and start afresh if you didn't have the same terms.

Love the place and the ppl who work there. It seems to do a great business, so the price I think is fine. I'm sure it is profitable. Apparently, tho, they have a "higher calling" and must leave the country. I will miss them

I spoke to the owner last week about the sale.  He strongly denied it, saying they are here to stay.  I told him about this post list on JHL, and he said he would get on to respond.  Don't think he has yet.  Hmmm...

That's great.  The listing does seem to be down from the realtor's site, or at least I didn't see it anymore when I clicked the link I posted two posts above.

I'm glad if they're staying.  They're lovely people and I was always happy with the food and fresh juices.  Where else around here can you get wheatgrass juice?

If we want them to stay, we'll have to give them our business, otherwise it's another hootchie-mama clothing store,  pharmacy or  place that sells cheap crap from Cinna.

I hope Just Made 4 U sticks around for a while.  At first I thought its business name was a bit corny, but after stopping by for the very first time, I realized that the food is really prepared "Just 4 U."  They have a pretty nice size menu, but what's great is that they'll create wraps, salads, smoothies according to your specific likes.  They also offer a non-traditional type of oatmeal for breakfast that's served up cold and with toppings such as fruits and nuts.  I'll have to try that sometime.

Just Made 4 U is a great choice for those looking for salads and the like.

Here's a photo of my grilled chicken/avocado/spinach wrap.  It was very hearty and delicious!

And here's a photo of some of the options available for salads and wraps:

I think the owners wanted to be discreet about the sale of their restaurant. As a side note, their are two 99 cent stores for sale. The one on 78th and the one on 86th.

the children's clothing store at 79th/80th is also up for sale. wonder how many separate gouging landlords are involved in destroying the neighborhood?

What used to be a crappy 99-cent store on the south side of 37th Ave between 82nd & 83rd  is now being remodeled.  When I asked the guy what is was to be - guess what - another pharmacy!  Do we really need another one of those?   It's so disappointing to see the collection of businesses we have in the neighborhood.
