that place never looked particularly appealing -- especially compared to similar, similarly priced places in the surrounding blocks. but it's true about most restaurants. if you look at the DOH site, even a lot of "A" grade places have roach/insect violations noticed (roaches don't count as many points to the health dep't).

A food court in Jackson Heights could have so much potential. The execution here was just horrible.
Imagine a food court with nice seating a stalls setup for the tamale lady, the best taco guys, the arepa lady, the no name chicken and ride guy by the bank on 74th and 37th, etc.

Absolutely!! We could have an amazing food court if some planning and funds were available. That place and sadly so many of
the other businesses currently on the Plaza are generic and unappealing. Wasted opportunities...

I think this should be brought up in the 'visioning' session on the Diversity Plaza!

Possibly the wrong section of JHL to post it, but it is similar to a 'Flagship' store in a Mall.

If Anthony Bourdain hasn't found a location yet, maybe someone can invite him over to Jackson Heights.

Oh man, rhyde, how great would that be?  Sadly, it will never happen; he needs a much larger location in an area with a lot of corporate offices.  I've heard he's looking at 3 World Trade.  I don't work too far from there so I guess I could live with that.

I walked in and right out of the food court when it was opened. It was just dirty to the naked eye as is the surrounding area. I hope the upcoming visioning session for Diversity plaza will have a positive affect on how and when this so called food court reopens

I started using this place after Kabab King had health violations. I always wondered why there was no letter grade showing for their health status but I perhaps naively hoped for the best. I dread to think what those violations might be even more so since I ate there a few weeks ago.

Maybe the meeting on Diversity Plaza tomorrow can address the larger issues of making sure our restaurant food is clean. The environment of 74th Street also needs to be attended to as it is more often than not just a dirty garbage strewn mess.

I entered the JH Food Court for the first time just a couple days ago.  Didn't realize the restaurant was connected to the market on 73rd St.  Didn't stop to try the food cause the place appeared too filthy even for my usual low standards.

There's really no excuse for this except not caring and not having any pride in your establishment.

agreed. i don't expect pristine. and i've had some of my best meals - in and out of nyc - at messy looking places. but this looked downright gross.

Any idea what the rent is there? I really want to start a campaign to get a couple of cool places here- like Communitea in LIC, which lost their lease, or Rest-au-Rant in a quiet nabe of Astoria. Why can't we have such places? AND of course, all our beautiful, regional, places.

A few years ago, a group of us tried to approach the owners about a strategy for saving the movie theater.   We couldn't even get a meeting.

Potentially good news: rumors of a sale.   This place has fallen far, far short of its potential.
