STREET VENDING DOCUMENTARY AND PANEL AT THE QUEENS MUSEUM

You are invited to attend the premiere screening of the documentary short Judith: Portrait of a Street Vendor
a film by Zahida Pirani
 
Judith: Portrait of a Street Vendor takes the audience on an intimate journey into the daily life of Judith, a street vendor from Guatemala who lives and works in New York City. Judith exposes the routine obstacles and struggles she and her fellow immigrant vendors face daily on the city’s streets and reveals her own hopes and aspirations as an immigrant worker, mother, activist and community organizer.
 
Note: Film is in Spanish with English subtitles
 
The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and reception.

About the Panelists:
 
Jennifer Arieta is the Development Manager and organizer with VAMOS Unidos, a social justice organization that organizes immigrant street vendors throughout New York City.
 
Kathleen Dunn teaches at Brooklyn College and is a PhD Candidate in Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research focuses on street vendor organizing.
 
Judith Ruano is a member of VAMOS Unidos and is featured in the documentary short Judith: Portrait of a Street Vendor.
 
Zahida Pirani is an independent filmmaker based in Queens, New York.
