Name:  Neighborhood Leadership Institutes (NLI)

Deadline:  Oct 26, 2011
Eligibility:   The ideal NLI candidate is an immigrant leader who wants to be more involved in their community. They are interested in the well-being of their neighborhood and working within their community to make a difference. This immigrant leader must reside or work in one of the neighborhoods listed above and be proficient in English.
 
Agency:   Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and The New York Community Trust in partnership with Citizens Committee for New York City
 
Summary:  The Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and The New York Community Trust, in partnership with Citizens Committee for New York City, are offering free skill-building workshops for emerging immigrant leaders. The workshops will cover the fundamentals of community organizing, navigating City government, grassroots fundraising, and group structure. Groups will be invited to apply for micro-grant funds and project planning assistance to undertake a community improvement project upon completion of the NLI.
 
The NLIs aim to engage immigrant communities within the following neighborhoods:
Bronx: Concourse / Morrisania / Mott Haven; Manhattan: East Harlem / Harlem;
Queens: Astoria / Woodside / Jackson Heights / Corona; Staten Island: St. George / Port Richmond / Park Hill; Brooklyn: Sunset Park / Flatbush
