Jackson Heights Life

Where A Childrens Place is, wasn't there some kind of Bed Bath Beyond type of store. Also, where the Vitamin Store is was a clothes store. I think it was C & C. Something with initials.  Pretty Girl was a store named Joyce Leslie, the best place to buy ur Jou Jou Jeans. Jackson Heights also had the best boutiques to buy real nice shoes. Not these stores know that sell hooker heels.

I was going to mention Hamburger Express just to show how old I am. I guess this means that finally you are as old as me.

What is now the ABC superstore (the new one) was in fact a Woolworths for many years.

Just remembered there used to be a great burger place on 82nd street...next to the KAY Bee toy store. If I'm not mistaken it was called BURGER NEST...really narrow greasy spoon.

Also, where Rudy Volcano is now there used to be...for a very short time, a book store...used books Cannot remeber the name of the shop though. I do remember though buying my first (and last!) Hardy Boys book there...Of course now I 've heard that the Nancy Drew books were way better! but of course I wouldn't have been caught dead then with a Nancy Drew back then!

I am not a long-time Jackson Heights resident, but, before we moved in, I visited regularly since my grandmother lived in the neighborhood--and she was a very long time resident: 50+ years, if I remember correctly. I went for a brief time to Hebrew School at the Jackson Heights Jewish Center, when it was on 82nd Street, and I got my first job there, working for Max Weber's catering business. And I remember when the Bollywood movie theater on 37th Road was a porn theater, and there was a gay bar on that same block called the Betsy Ross, if I remember correctly. And where there is now a very fancy hair salon near the corner of 80th Street and Northern Boulevard was a Lee's jeans store, where we used to buy a lot of our clothes.

I don't remember The Magic Touch; if I am remembering The Betsy Ross correctly, though, I am going back some 30 years. When was it The Magic Touch?

It was the Magic Touch as long as I can recall (which is only through the '80s) it's certainly possible that it was Betsy Ross prior to that. We're talking about a small bar that had 1 dark window that could not be seen through correct ?
