Spend our green stuff in Jackson Heights. Let's support our local retailers/restaurants this holiday season
with the movement to shop small businesses this Saturday the 27th of November. They need
our business as they have much smaller percentage of profit than the big stores. Keep our
retailers here and happy. American Express is a big sponsor and if any local businesses are
out there your can post your business information on this site for free.

Anyone have any suggestions for JH shops that have decent holiday gifts? (Besides Inner Peace.)

Has anyone been to that "As seen on TV" store on 37th Ave? I don't know why, but I love that stuff. NOT being snarky - being for serious. Is it expensive for what it is? Sometimes I see those products in dollar stores.

omg. totally. the 'wonder hanger' and the 'shark steamer' rule :D

but on another level, butala emporium has some cool stuff for the artistically inclined....little hand percussion things and such. the gift shop on 37th near gustosa has really cute hello kitty stuff -- which will always have a place in the hearts of some girls.

Where is the as seen on tv store? I haven't seen it. I have to say most of the items I think are hokey but the steam mop rules!!! I use it everyday and LOVE it. I don't have to touch dirty water at all. It is not heavy and does a good job. I do use bleach/cleaner once week to get the extra grime and this is pricey as are the pads but I did see them on ebay and might order more. I got mine at Bed bath and beyond with a 20% coupon and bought extra pads. Anyone else use any other "as seen on tv" products they like???

Bella,
It's between 85th and 86th streets. On the south side. I want to try Easy Feet, but I don't want to pay $8 shipping for a product that costs $.10 to manufacture, so I'm waiting patiently for it to be in stores or kiosks at the mall. I got The Potty Patch for my dog, but he didn't get it. I think he tried to sleep on it a couple of times. I have also been eying The Smart Mop. The Snuggie makes a good gift!

Also, I was thinking that making gift baskets of our abundant foreign food products would be a nice gift: Jars of sauces and dips and pastes, weird and delicious Asian candies, etc.

The "As Seen on TV" store is gone!

On the upside, I spotted a new eyeglass store!

Sorry to come to this thread late.

In response to Foxy's question, I did.  Lot's of cute holiday stuff at Frank's Pharmacy.  I always find surprising stocking stuffers at the amazing stationary store two doors down from Jahn's.  Got my wreath at Ultima Florals. I LOVE Ultima.  Never waste your money on 800 flowers.  Got wrapping paper and gift bags at the 99 cent store.

Really wanted to get hat/mittens for my 4 year old at Inner Peace, but they never had her size.  Beautiful painted gourds are on my tree from last year's purchase at Rudy Volcano.

In previous years I got DVD players and things like that at the appliance/electronic store on 37th and the mid 80's.  Forget the name J&R?  J&A?  Something like that.  They also sell, deliver and install high quality air conditioners much cheaper than PC Richards, and have exceptional customer service.

I had a conversation recently with a friend who surprised me me when she said that there was nothing interesting to buy on our commercial strip.  I really disagree.  I usually say that I can find almost anything here, other than clothes or books.

I also went to some chains.  EB Games and the Children's Place.  But I prefer to spend my money in the family run businesses when I can.

Not sure if this is a mom and pop store, but I found some beautiful little girl dresses on 82nd near Roosevelt (west side of the street).  The rack is inside on the left.  Some Calvin Klein coats, etc. for the ladies are outside on the walls and exterior racks.
