Passport Renewal
« on: March 26, 2010, 02:28:20 PM »
I searched and found an old thread from 2 years ago about passport photos, so I decided to create a new thread. Is flagship video on 37th Ave a good place to go for passport photos? Also, for those who have renewed your passports recently, did you do it in person or through the mail? I am not in a rush or anything. Last time I renewed my passport there were long lines at the center.

My partner and I also need to do this! As far as we know, it's done through the mail. We have everything ready to go except for the photos. Do they take these photos at the post office? I wonder whether it would be possible and/or less expensive to take them ourselves on our digital camera and then go to Rite Aid or something and have them printed.

flagship video shut its doors due to the current wave of landlord greed, but the photo developing place betweenn 77th and 78th does passport photos quickly and pretty inexpensively.

hello there I recently renewed my passport at my local postoffice in woodside on 61st street but I think all post offices do passports now but only on certains days check with they --they also do passport photos too ($12.50 I think but they do a very good job) and they also send everything out right there and then and you get receipts for everything -- good luck.

It is MUCH easier to do through the mail if you are eligible.  Last time I had to go in person, because I was getting a passport for a minor child, and I was required to physically present identification and whatnot.

Rather than waiting in the ridiculously long lines here in JH, I actually went to a Manhattan post office.  Even though there was still a wait, it was not as bad, and there were places to sit.

This sounds the way to go for me, thanks. I will call in advance before I go to make sure. They advise if you are renewing your passport through the mail to use a traceable delivery method, I was wondering more about safety then long lines at the passport agency.

I printed out the form online, so I bring my recently expired passport book,ID(drivers license/birth certificate,$75.00 check for the renewal fee+Post Office charge for photos, etc.

I know it's way out of the way, but I found the passport services at the Post Office on 23rd Street & 3rd Ave in Manhattan to be wonderful to deal with. (I happen to work a few blocks away - so it was more convenient to do it there than in Queens).  Anyway - the people were very friendly and that goes a long way with me. lol

A friend had a similar experience @ Canal St. Post Office a few years back.
