Yeah, maybe ours was lonely and bored and tired of all that car traffic, and he went home to be with his pinguino brothers!

Translation for those that want to sing in spanish as well, while doing the Penguin Boogie:
"Boogie Wonderland
Yo so Raul
pinguino mas cool
latino por tu santo cien por ciento de espanol
my brother que loco me llama
una senorita me siente como flama
las fiestas baila, baila muchachitas
mi corazon tiene dinamita
exacto, you look so beautiful to me baby
ven tus papis pinguino"

Now I haven't walked by since reading this thread a few mins ago, but if the Penguin is gone, that's truly horrible.

I'm a little disturbed that within the past two years two of our neighborhood icons (the scrabble sign, and now Penguin) have mysteriously disappeared, with no explanation as to why, and it doesn't seem as if the city has noticed or has intended to replace them.

They were subtle little icons that gave this neighborhood some of it's charm and character.  Maybe the character's changing now, but that's saddening.

Maybe someone with a double word score on their license plate oughtta spin some doughnuts in front of Sears' office until our local representatives take notice.

If the Penguin and Scrabble Sign aren't replaced... I suggest a bronze statue of Hiram Monserrate "serving drinks to loved one's" so we can really show our neighborhood's true colors.

Pitiful...

I just realized that BOTH penguins are gone.  The one on the Elmhurst side was stolen a year or two ago.  How about we call for a very large statue (2 or 3 meters tall?) so that it won't be so easy to steal?  It may even become a tourist attraction.

I noticed the missing penguin today - it does begin to irk you when people steal things like that. They will never get replaced.

Maybe it was that hawk from the other board?

Could anyone use any adjective but "cool" to describe that dance.  No wonder our guys flew the coop!

That's Cool.  Let's use other words people.  That's not Cool to be using Cool so much.  But the penguin was Cool...I think he is a she or WAS a she
Time is running out!

The penguin was run over the other day. It looked like the driver skidded on ice right onto the meridian.  :(

Rest in peace little penguin

That's what I thought- there used to be a sign in front of it- something like Elmjack Mall (?)  The only thing left of the sign were the two posts and they were bent back severely towards the penguin's stone base.  Definitely a collision.  Poor little thing had to stand there and take a beating...  I hated the sign but would love to have the penguin back.

Actually, I don't think the penguins are victims of an auto accident.  Any damage to an "Elmjack Mall" sign happened subsequent to the kidnapping of the penguins.

kidnapping of the penguins.

Wouldn't the appropriate term be birdnapping  ? :)

Well, if they were still young penguins ... :)

Maybe that guy who played Rocky's coach and was on the old Batman show did it.  I used to love that "waah waah waah" in the reruns when I got home from school in the 70s.
