The person the police are alleging committed these crimes was no kid.
He was 40 years old. This was no teenage 'prank'.

I stand publicly corrected regarding teenage pranks. Mea culpa.

And I am pleased that the police have made an arrest. The question still remains if this individual acted alone or was part of a larger movement. Is there any real connection to the Brooklyn incident other than timing?

I at no time condoned these acts. I did call for reason and level heads in light of an emotionally charged situation. I also stated that the police tower could not have seen anything. In one place in the thread I asked that the authorities be allowed to do their job. Unfortunately that is no longer visible. It is also noted how another post to this thread is gone. Perhaps that was by the poster's request, no speculation on my part as to the motivation.

Accuracy in news reporting is also important. NY1 today is reporting 3 libraries, a synagouge, and a church. The Queens Chronicle lists 3 incidents at 2 libraries, a synagouge and a church. Did this also occur at the 84th Street fabric shop or not? Do they also count?
I also channel Gladys Gilbert!

As a community, we are pleased that the person was caught. Thank you for the great police work.

This event has given all of time to reflect. Hate crimes are not acceptable no matter who they target the overall effect is to target an entire community. Hopefully, our community will grow because of the experience. Let's us all keep faith that the JH events were not related to Brooklyn or anyother events.

Let peace and chivalry return to this blog and the community as a whole.  :)

I've come to this discussion very late, after reading the Chronicle's report.
There has been no previous mention that St. Joan of Arc was defaced.
Was that the case? Or is the article in error.

sad that it was an "adult" (quotes definitely apply)

amusing that someone who would surely be gas chamber-bound would choose to suck up to the nazis.

It hasn't been noticed by most or reported on but a swastika was also painted on the pull-down gate of Liz Fabric on 37th Ave. between 83 & 84th Sts.  It happened at the same time as the others and it looks like it was drawn by the same person.

I just learned about this today. Yes, it does seem that St. Joan's was also victimized.
This is such a shame.

As far as Liz Fabrics, yes it seems as if it was a product of the same 'painter' but I haven't seen it included in the list of sites.
