  I don't see how anyone could be considered a troll on this thread.  I have read and enjoyed every post here so far, and I can say that I find portions in every one that I both agree and disagree with.  So far, I haven't come up on any comment that could be considered to be troll-like.

They call troll any person who says something they don't like to hear.

No Carmela.  A troll is someone who is obsessed with one issue and weaves that issue through every thread, regardless of the subject.  For example: Crime-Illegal Immigrants
              Schools--Illegal Immigrants
              Restaurants:  Illegal Immigrants
              Mets or Yankees: Illegal Immigrants
              Children's Clothing: Illegal Immigrants.

This is a very tolerant web site.  I disagree with many of my neighbors on a variety of issues.  But the key word is variety not disagree.  We like the variety of matters covered and we don't want to see every thread turn into a discussion on immigration.  We like the fact that there are differences of opinion that lead to lively debates.

  My understanding was that a troll was someone who disrupted otherwise civil discussions with inflamatory, obscene or some kind of inappropriate comment.  I honestly wasn't aware that it extended to persons fixated on bringing certain issues into every discussion.  You learn something new every day.

And it's not as nice as when I lived there in the forties and fifties... I fully realize that the world changes with each passing unit of time and that one cannot 'go back again' to the past but it is something which we would all like to do -- if only for a brief visit. When you go back to where you had once been a much younger person, a child perhaps, and discover that you can no longer always understand what is being spoken, or written on the shop signs; when loud and unfamiliar music blares through filthy streets with the aura of danger about them and the faces we perceive about us are totally unlike the faces of friends and neighbors from our past, then a great sense of loss and resentment begins to well up within ourselves. About the most which anyone can hope for is that our once beautiful little town of Jackson Heights be kept clean and safe --- as it once was.

I grew up and lived in Jackson Heights from 1944 until 1980. Sadly I was witness to Jackson Heights's decline especially in the 1970's. After having one car stolen ,another car vandalized and my apartment robbed I felt it was time to leave. Also during that time was the.proliferation of cocaine trafficing there. I still visited Jackson Heights as my mom lived there up until her passing in 2007. I was glad to witness some re-birth and revival of Jackson Heights. As Jackson Heights is in my blood and roots I can only hope for good things for the town of my youth
