No other area in NYC thought this was a wise, well thought out solution to wanting more space in their community by all parties. Not one.

Itsit is completely incorrect here. Blatant misinformation.

PRESS RELEASE from the Mayor.

Open Streets, which has allowed many city blocks to entirely close off to traffic to allow dining in the street, will also be made permanent, de Blasio said...

--------------------

Please be aware that all other OPEN STREETS are being considered for permanency. In other neighborhoods. Not just 34th Ave in Jackson Heights.

Which of the open streets program besides 34th Ave will become permanent? I tried a quick google search and all I came up with is that some residents are petitioning to have Berry St. become a permanent open street, but not that it was confirmed. Please post a link to a list of the streets that will be permanent Open Streets.

The link you provided is about Open Street-restaurants, which is a different program.
Here is the city's information about Open Streets-restaurants https://www1.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/pedestrians/openstreets-restaurants.shtml

Here's information about Open Streets. https://www1.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/pedestrians/openstreets.shtml

They are two different programs. 34th Ave is part of Open Streets (not Open Streets- restaurants, obviously since there are no restaurants on 34th Ave). The discussion on this board is about Open Streets, not Open Streets-restaurants. If you'd like to discuss the restaurants program, it would make sense to start a separate thread to avoid confusion.

Agree it's confusing.

But the OPEN STREETS in Astoria (Like our 34th Ave) have been incredibly well received.
