This place has been around longer then the 24 years I have lived in JH.  I'm sorry to see it go.

There just might be such a thing as too many pizza places in one neighborhood...to be viable.

It closed due to a rent increase, but "Uncle Thomas Pizza" still operates at 90-23 37th Ave. The 83rd Street location closed after Super Bowl. http://www.orderclassicthomaspizza.com/

true, but this neighborhood has fewer than most (certainly fewer than Astoria and most Manhattan neighborhoods where i spend time).

I found their pizza to be mediocre.

Thomas Pizza used to be amazing up until the early to mid 00’s when the old school Italians sold the business. Remember it being the best in the neighborhood back then.

Had some good tacos here a few years ago

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. @abcdefghijk there might be such a thing as too many pizza places but we don't have too many. We have a few that are by and large pretty lousy, and Thomas was the dregs at the bottom of the barrel.

Not related, but I stopped in at Due Fratelli a couple of times and it seems that their new business model is working out well for them. The quality has improved dramatically. It still isn't up to the level of Louie's or Sac's but it's at least a serviceable slice, which it wasn't before. I hope that they will continue to improve.

also not related, but i'd like to give a shout-out to Pizza Sam, which we had for the first time in a long while the other day. it kind of fell out of the delivery rotation when Sac's opened, but had a hankering and ordered a large pie, which was excellent -- and extremely large. quantity doesn't outstrip quality, but quality was very good as well. generously topped, nice char on the crust and overall, a solid B-plus. house salad was also nice, not just the usual lettuce/tomato/cukes.
