Loud Noises (Booms) in the Middle of the Night

Yesterday night at 3 am and just now at 2 am, I've heard two loud booming noises, a few minutes apart on each night. Last night, it woke me up, terrified that something bad was happening.

I'm not sure if the noise is fireworks or something else, but whatever it is, it's THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and no one wants to be jolted awake or to feel like something just exploded near their window.

As I'm writing this, I just heard another of the noises.

 Very close to my place,73rd street. It was fireworks. There was at least 3 shot off last night. I was close to calling the police. Would have at least looked if my air conditioner wasn't in the window. Very annoying

It woke mu up too.  I knew it was fireworks, but it's still really annoying.  What kind of person has so little awareness or care for the people around them to do that in the middle of the night?

I looked and saw nothing but you might be onto something that they're for Puerto Rico.
