I am thoroughly confused, though not surprised, that someone would raise the idea that by calling this out as an issue suggests I somehow don't care about the delivery guy's livelihood.

Let me make this abundantly clear: NO ONE is saying they can't make a buck doing what is unfortunately a thankless job. But you can do your job and still adhere to the rules of the road. The two are not mutually exclusive, and it's ridiculous that that's even being considered to be the case. These aren't small vehicles. These aren't even cyclists. The mopeds/scooters are large, heavy, and fast. They're closer related to motorcycles than they are to bicycles. Treat them as such and park them at the curb, stop at red lights, and don't drive against traffic.

I'm not the biggest world traveler, but I think it's worth pointing out that in some areas of the world, there are essentially no traffic regulations and it's basically a free-for-all on the streets. This may be what some of the delivery people are used to.

Yes, and after they get a few  tickets, if they are smart, they will learn our rules.

Yes! their needs to be some sort of order, keeping in mind we don't hurt or affect pedestrians, delivery drivers and business owners ! I personally know a few delivery driver in JH getting paid $9 an hour which is legal for tip employees and make an easy $120/ $150 in tips making that a whopping $1000/ 1200 a week (TAX FREE) Think about it some delivery guys are making more then the average......... Gives me a reason no to underestimate anyone !

Ramos Promotes Legislation That Would Legalize E-Bikes and E-Scooters

Two Queens legislators held a joint press conference in Corona on Friday to announce a bill they introduced in Albany last month that would legalize the use of e-bikes and e-scooters across the state.

State Senator Jessica Ramos (D-Jackson Heights) and Assembly Member Nily Rozic (D-Fresh Meadows) promoted the legislation they introduced April 23 that would legalize most e-bikes and e-scooters.

The pair argue that e-bikes and e-scooters are heavily used by low-wage immigrants and the bill would protect them from being fined and having their bikes unfairly confiscated. Additionally, they argue, its a cleaner method of transportation and does not add to traffic congestion.

New York lawmakers reach deal to legalize e-bikes, e-scooters

A bill is expected to be voted on this Wednesday

Albany lawmakers have reportedly reached an agreement to legalize e-bikes and e-scooters throughout New York state, which may lead to big transportation changes in New York City.

A source familiar with the state Senate and Assembly joint bills—originally introduced in April by Sen. Jessica Ramos and Assembly member Nily Rozic—told Curbed that lawmakers have agreed to legislation that will make e-bikes (all bikes with electronic assist) and e-scooters legal in the state. The bill, expected to be voted on this Wednesday, will allow municipalities to decide how to regulate e-scooters.

Now finally we can have electric scooter rental stations all up and down 37th Ave. They can remove parking from many parts of 37th Ave, 35Ave , 34th Ave. to allow these rental businesses to rent and charge electric scooters.

they won't do it in the historic district on the residential streets. that's 100 percent certain. they won't even allow trash cans on corners there, and they don't have citibike stations on purely residential streets in neighborhoods where they exist now....
i'm not thrilled with the scooter proliferation because i'm convinced people won't obey the laws with them, however.

They already have parking for rental cars. ie Zipcars

three spaces on 35th. three on 37th. Koeppel uses five times that many, illegally, and people here are willing to give them the world.

and there's nowhere in citibike territory where residential blocks are impacted.
