Wegmans tends to like large spaces which are hard to find around us. Maybe a better option for a traders joes will be the soon to be closed Toys R Us.

that would be a terrific location, and it has the parking/size and all. but i wonder if stop and shop (on the same strip) has an exclusion clause for other supermarkets. leases for those big ticket tenants sometimes have a lot of demands -- like the no coffee of any kind one Starbucks has on its strip.

There is also the Toys r Us where Costco and Aldi are - but I imagine there's some clause in their contracts that prevent similar business's from opening up in or near the same property.

Considering the state of the Aldi I think i'd prefer it be a Trader Joes (although that property is kinda small for it)

it actually makes sense in that area, given the higher percentage of observant residents. not so true at Manhattan locations.

When I lived in Brooklyn and had a car, I often went to the big Shop Rite in Borough Park on Friday nights for that reason. It's a big suburban-size store with wide aisles, decent selection, and a parking lot.

Meanwhile, Trader Joes is busy opening up more stores in Manhattan. Upper West Side at 92nd and Columbus opened this week, and the Soho store is set to open soon.

That Soho store will be wonderful since I have a weekly errand close by - thanks so much for the alert!

Aldi and Trader Joe's are owned by different branches of the same family so they probably have some sort of policy in place about this already. There's an Aldi not too far from my mom's town in Florida and it is SO MUCH nicer than the one I've been to in Queens.

I went to the new Soho store today (233 Spring Street) and it's a huge space, room to walk around and the cashier lines well separated from the product aisles. Subway very convenient.

In my experience, nearly all big grocery stores are much nicer everywhere else besides NYC.

the food bazaar on Northern is very much like a non-NYC store, and my Nebraska native partner really loves it. we do need to make another trip soon.

I spoke with a cashier today at the TJ's in Chelsea and when I mentioned it would be nice to have another store in Queens, he highly encouraged me to communicate with the Trader Joe's office via the website.

When I told him I already send in recommendations of new locations (like Northern Blvd), he then told me that there is a group on the Upper East Side that has gathered 2000 signatures of neighborhood residents in an effort to convince the TJ's corporate office to open their next location on the UES. I think we need to up our game!

Well, I've been to that Food Bazaar a few times, but since I don't drive it's a bit of a hassle. By bus I have to walk to the Q66 and wait around hoping it will show up, and then there's the ordeal of crossing Northern Blvd (there never seems to be quite enough time to be comfortable) and then thread through the parking lot. I've never found anything there out of the ordinary enough to motivate frequent returns - they don't even have tongue at the deli. I did try the  salmon once since  somebody mentioned it a while back - ok, but again not worth traveling for. The subway is easier if it's running normally but still have to negotiate the crossing, complicated by all the little streets going off at angles.

Trader Joe has a few things I really like and is much more convenient for me. The bus to Metropolitan Avenue where the crossings are less difficult for me, or 23rd Street when I'm in Manhattan, and the new Spring Street store is just round the corner from the E train and near a regular errand location, so that will be my preferred store now.

Glad we have choices, anyway!

Hagsrus, I have an even lower opinion of that store. "Glad I'm not alone, anyway!"

Thanks, y'all. It's a bit of a hike for me, but with weather being nicer now, I will trek over there and check it out.
