parrots in jackson heights
« on: April 18, 2021, 01:03:41 PM »
I came across these parrots on 30th & 80th while I was out for my morning jog. I'm just curious if other folks have spotted these parrots in the neighborhood or know where they came from.

I saw a budgie today on a building fence on the corner of 35th Ave and 79th Street, today. I offered my finger thinking it was someone's pet but it flew off into a tree.

^^yes, I've seen them at Gorman Park and in Astoria.  They are Monk Parakeets. Interesting article about how they got to NYC from South America, and how they adapt. Apparently they are spreading.  https://www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth/parrots-live-in-new-york-city-heres-how-they-make-it-in-the-urban-jungle
