New Russian deli in former Rudy Volcano space
« on: August 07, 2012, 08:47:58 PM »
And there was a sign (which has since disappeared) in the window of Rudy Volcano that seemed to say that he was going to close the shop and open a cafe/gallery....

The new business in this location appears to be a Russian deli from the outside.  I didn't go inside so can't confirm!

Mod note: I split this and subsequent posts to make a separate thread in order to prevent confusion -- had originally posted this in the sandwich shop thread

a russian deli would be fantastic. been missing gourmet fantasy food so so much since it closed.

monika did a good job in its original incarnation, but after the second or third shuttering, it was taken over by some other people who didn't have a clue. the italian farms folks are nice, but their offerings only scratch the surface of what's needed -- none of the smoked fish, good pastry, homemade dishes that made gourmet fantasy so good.

Remember when someone out there in cybernerdsville suggested the space was going to be a “gentlemen’s club?”  ;D

Perhaps actually going to be a gentlemen’s club posing as a Russian deli.   :2funny:

they were open this evening, so we stopped in just to check things out.

super good selection of meats and cheeses, and some very nice looking smoked fish. didn't explore a lot, but this looks like a great addition to the area  :)

Passed by today. This place, Appettito, looks like it has hit the dust.

Are there any Euro-centric shops left on the Avenue?

I believe the sign on the door says it's under renovation.  I think it will reopen. You are all jumping to conclusions!

Yes, it says under renovation Feb 20th-23rd. I guess it's not major renovation.
Anyway, I got some of my fav food at Parrot on 46th Str and Queens Blvd.
