Info on shooting on Roosevelt and 89th Sunday afternoon?
« on: May 29, 2016, 09:16:27 PM »
Does anyone know what happened? The sidewalk was cordoned off in front of Dunkin Donuts with cops everywhere. I spoke with a news photographer who told me there was a shooting. I asked if it was at the Dunkin, but he said no, the windows were not broken. That it was on the sidewalk, where there were bullet casings. This was around 5 Sunday afternoon. He told me that it happened at 2 this afternoon. If so, I really hope noone was injured - it was a beautiful day and there surely were many people out and about. I cannot seem to find any information about this online, so I was hoping someone might know or have a link.

A bullet hit the front door of Dunken Donuts on Roosevelt Avenue and 89th Street at 2:30 in the afternoon and it hasn't been reported to a local news outlet?
Isn't this area covered by 2 precincts?

Was this a random shooting where a gun went off or attempted murder/gang violence? This is close to the 90 street train station which was been plagued with gun violence.  Do the two police precincts that monitor Roosevelt Ave. need to have  311 complaints for this too?  Outrageous that there is no permanent officiers stationed throughout this vicinity. Equally outrageous is how Roosevelt which borders two police precincts has so much criminal activity after all these years. Policing remains ineffectual.

Acutaly the middle of Roosevelt Avenue is the dividing like for the precincts, The north side is the 115th and the south side is the 110th.

It is also the same as far as the Community Boards - north is CB3 and south is CB4.

Exactly Scott.....you would think that because it "IS"the dividing line , coupled with the fact that it is infamous for illegal activity,  that there would be greater presence there.

I saw an article today here: http://qns.com/story/2016/06/01/man-shot-in-the-face-outside-of-dunkin-donuts-in-jackson-heights/. There were multiple articles in the Daily News and NY Post about various shootings across town over Memorial Day weekend, all omitting this one. I was beginning to think I was crazy, had I not seen and spoke with people at the site myself.

Having Roosevelt serve as a border between districts seems like obvious foolishness on the city's part. Edges and borders are where things are apt to fall apart due to jurisdictional/responsibility issues.  Isn't there currently, or hasn't there been in the past a special NYPD task force that was looking at crime on Roosevelt? It could be that I am misremembering. I seem to recall reading about an anti-human trafficking push at one time. It seems like between this (probably) gang related shooting in the middle of the day and the other incidents (in Travers, tire iron attack in East Elmhurst, on Northern in the 70s)  call for a policing response.

There is a Roosevelt Avenue task force that patrols the thoroughfare.

Please attend this months Community Council meeting June 21 at the 115th Precinct. This is the place to ask questions directly to the top police officers.
Meetings: The Community Council meetings are held the third Tuesday of the month (except July and August) at 7:00 P.M. at the 115th Precinct, 92-15 Northern Boulevard.
