We need to cut a smallish amount of tiles and if that goes well we may tackle another area. So 2-3 days of
tile saw rental or borrowing for other exchange- like photography. Home Depot has this but not in the stores
nearby.

Have you tried Home Depot?  They rent tools.

There's one on the "Rent and Borrow" website that looks like it's in a coop in Forest Hills, $11 per day.  I've never heard of this website before (just came up when Googling) so not sure how well the process works. http://www.rentandborrow.com/borrow/Ryobi-3/4-HP-7-in.-Wet-Tile-Saw/50015

If it were me, I'd feel more comfortable getting one from Home Depot even if I had to travel to a different store for it.

Have you tried Metropolitan Lumber in Astoria or Corona?  I'm not sure if they rent tools but it couldn't hurt to call and ask.
