Queens Botanic Garden
« on: April 25, 2015, 07:03:58 PM »
I went today, trying out my new Brooklyn Botanic membership which carries reciprocal privileges, and which I got a year free with my new NYC ID card.

Very happy to report than most (not all) of the paths are now open, though there's still construction going on. Lovely daffodils and tulips et al, and white cherry blossom - the trees in the cherry circle look close to blooming, as do the crab-apples.

And they finally finished the paving etc for the footbridge. I don't know if the gates will be open to the garden at some point (perhaps during free admission times?). Anyway, I walked along College Ave when I left the garden and climbed the shallow stairs and walked across the bridge to the park.

I wish they had at least an exit turnstile at that point, but for the moment I'm enjoying the improvement!

Just a reminder that it's free Sunday 4 to 6, and Wednesday 3 to 6.

Thanks for the reminder about this place.  I have never been and will put it on my list.  Also, thanks for the reminder about the NYC ID card.  I just made an appointment at Laguardia CC for sometime in May.  There are plenty of appointments available now.

I had my appointment to sign up for the NYC ID card.  It was extremely chaotic, but even so, I think I only waited about 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time.  You don't get the card right away.  They said it takes a couple weeks to go out by US mail.  Maybe the appointments in Manhattan wouldn't be so chaotic.  Mine was at Laguardia CC.

My appt was at the Mid-Manhattan library last week. Super easy and well organized. In and out in 20 minutes.

My appointment was at the main library in Jamaica - not too much hassle. They said the card would take four weeks but it was about one.

My appointment was on Junction Blvd & 34th. Same as others' experiences: it took about a half hour and I got the card within 10 days.
