Lol Ed,

but seriously, Front Towards Eneny is way more precarious.  The distance between the wall and the end of the stage is probably about 4 feet, with only a foot and a half high metal rail blocking you from falling down 15 feet onto tables below.  So, if there is an amp behind you that gives you about 6 inches clearance.

Re: Terrazza, maybe get yourself a baby bass?  Seems fitting in a way.

For all you gastropub fans, here's a link to The Bonnie:
http://www.thebonnie.com/page/about/

Been to The Bonnie a few times. It's a cool place, but it can get loud and filled with young and rude entitlements as it gets later and later. Sweet Afton always seemed like a better crowd. Not to mention we loved the pork sandwich the first time we went to Bonnie, but the last two times it's been substandard. The Bonnie isn't quite hitting the mark of what I would look for, but it would be better than nothing of that sort, that's for sure.

Actually just met up yesterday with the manager/owner of The Bonnie/Sweet Afton named Mike yesterday you discussed doing an event.  He's never been to Jackson Heights but has heard good things.  Place is certainly nice, and in the spring they're  going to open up an outside area using reclaimed wood, etc.. the usual things people look for nowadays. Menu is interesting, but I can't speak for the food because I haven't had it.

HFM, it's interesting what you say, because Mike gave us the impression the Bonnie was a kindler, gentler sweet Aftons, less of a rowdy crowd.  It certainly feels more classy in there. But I've only stopped in once in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday so I can't speak to that.

Okay, so there is this place in Long Island city that sort of like a cross between a sports bar (pool table upstairs/large screen tvs) and a Gastro pub called Alewife.

Might be the best model for what can possibly fit in our neighborhood.  Here's the web address.

I love Alewife! The Rosemary-truffle shoestring fries are so good! It has a very comfortable atmosphere and the times we only went for drinks, we didn't feel pressured to order beyond apps or hurry so we could give up the table.

I've never experienced a rowdy crowd at Sweet Afton. Admittedly, I'd rarely be there during the rowdy hours. Haven't been to The Bonnie, yet.

Tried the truffle fries at Alewife tonight Ms. Jackson.  Really nice!

Another nearby bar that is a combination coffeehouse/gastropub that might make an interesting model for what could work in this neighborhood is Kickshaw in astoria.  They often feature locally sourced food, which I don't think any restaurant is doing in our neighborhood, and sometimes have DJs, or acoustic music.

What makes this gastropub different than front towards enemy or alewife is that its smaller in size.  More of the square footage you might find for a store on 37th Ave.

It wasn't wild and crazy, it was just getting filled with people that were rude. Like we weren't even out of our table yet and they were trying to sit at it. And just eavesdropping on conversations I almost hurt my eyes rolling them.

Guess maybe I'm just getting old..  or it was a bad night.. The other times I was there it was great.

I live across from Arunee, which was a great tapas bar then became a "trendy" type bar Novo.  somewhere after 10 pm it would fill up with low lifes from other neighborhoods who would have street fights on 79-80th streets.  As it is now the bars have no control over the drunk clientele at 3-4am on the weekend who end up on 37th Avenue screaming/ fighting or throwing up.  I think the last thing we need is another bar on the Avenue

I remember the late-night Novo crowd Buzz.  If I recall I would hear Latin dance music blasting out of there.  It purposely turned itself into a Latin dance club.  The type of bar that I think we are discussing would pretty much be the antithesis of that.

i can see Buzz's point, though. everyone wants a bar somewhere in their neighborhood, but having lived right across from or on the block of a lot of different kinds of bars over the years - in astoria, greenpoint, flatbush and los angeles -- i can vouch that there are always idiots, always issues. of course, we need gathering places to hoist a few, but i understand what he's saying.

But if Buzz lives across from Arunee/formerly Novo, he's either living in the post office, or is one of the people sleeping on the benches outside.

Kidding Buzz, I get your point too.  The convenience of having a good bar/pub in the neighborhood is nice, but not when you are living right close by and have to tolerate some of the unintended side effects of patrons who don't respect the establishment's neighbors.

Even down on 35th and 34th aves, you'll end up with some issues as people walk home at 4:30, but if you choose to live on or near 37th, you need to expect some additional 'commercial district' issues, but there's still no excuse for people to behave like a-holes when they head out for a good time.

I love this neighborhood.  The diversity.  Having said that what I would like to see is a nice Irish Pub like some of the ones in Woodside.  No, I don't want to always go to Woodside for a burger & pint.  I'd like to be able to walk a few blocks and hang out in the neighborhood.  Most of the bars in our neighborhood are not always the kind of place one would go to to just hangout for hours.  They are either restaurants disguised as bars, or a bit pretentious (trying to be something like latin hip/pricey), or places you wouldn't (especially a woman) want to go into.   You can go to Donovan's or Saints & Sinners etc. Woodside and feel they are places you can relax in.  Good unpretentious food (burgers, pot pies, fish & chips etc) and a nice selection of beers and wines--and all reasonable.  They are not trying to be slick but several steps above Ready Penny.  I think we have the crowd here for something like this but maybe not.  This is a heavy Hispanic neighborhood and we're seeing more Asians as well and the Veggie/family crowd so maybe this isn't the place.  Would be nice for some of us.  I believe that "if you build it, they will come."

The Irish pub is going the way of  the Italian pizza parlor.  One we don't get the same immigration from Ireland as in the past because the EU is a better option.
