Panel Doors

Since I moved into my apartment, I've been wanting to replace all the hollow doors with panel doors (and glass door knobs).  Has anyone ever done a project like this?  Any suggestions?  Any idea how much it will cost?  Any recommendations of a person to do this project?  I haven't found  a handyman in the neighborhood that I would entrust to a job like this, they seem ok for small jobs, any recommendations?

I replaced one of my original pre-war doors with a French door as part of my kitchen renovation.  I have metal doorframes that required a special order width, so the door itself was more expensive than it would have been if the frame had accommodated a standard-width door.  My contractor purchased the door at Metropolitan Lumber in Astoria and then cut the door to modify it to fit the existing frame, which is no longer level due to some settling throughout the years.

If you check the recent "Kitchen!" thread I posted in this forum, you can see some pics.  The contractor is a general contractor but he does all types of interior jobs, so you could always ask if this type of job is up his alley.

If you are adventurous, go over to Build it Green in Astoria and look at their doors. I bought a beautiful french door, but stupidly, after stripping and painting it, found it wouldn't fit in the kitchen. And yes, we did measure but forgot the counter depth.
Also, I suppose you can ask some supers if there are discarded doors in their basements. That's a long shot.

Thanks for both of the suggestions, and the contractor name - I was thinking of going to Build it Green - they have amazing things, but I am not a handy person and I would definitely mismeasure, so I think I need to find someone to do the work first.  I don't know if there are any people who do that sort of work who are open to using recycled materials.
