FIOS TV...NOT IN JACKSON HEIGHTS
« on: April 14, 2014, 10:59:18 AM »
After reading on this site that FIOS TV was now available in Jackson Heights, I phoned Verizon to inquire about FIOS in JH.  They assured me that FIOS TV was available for my coop building.  Upon further investigation (and many phone calls), I discovered that FIOS TV is not available here.  Verizon has cut a deal with Direct TV to provide service to Jackson Heights.  Unfortunately, most coops will not allow those unsightly satellite dishes.  Guess we're stuck with the terrible (and pricey) Time Warner.

Here's a very good article about Verizon's shady dealings.

Isn't FiOS and DTV completely different infrastructure? No satellite dish is going to give you FiOS, it's a fiber infrastructure.

The building management does have to let them wire up the entire building though, I'm not completely sure how that works or under what circumstances that can happen.

I would imagine if people had the choice between TWC and FiOS in their building the apartments may be marginally more attractive to people that care about it.
