Shishito Japanese Peppers at the Greenmarket
« on: August 22, 2014, 01:27:19 PM »
I wanted to recommend the Shishito Japanese peppers at the greenmarket.  I just tried them for the first time this week and they are so good, and also easy to cook.  The only problem is that they are not cheap!

I find them a bit bitter, is this the way they suppose to taste?

You probably didn't cook them long enough.

This recipe says "Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add shishito peppers and cook, turning frequently, until limp, blistered and no longer bitter, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat."  Also,  "Test a pepper when you think they’re done.  If there’s any bitterness at all, they need to cook longer."

Thank you, Shelby! To be honest, I tried to cook them my way, but I still have few left and will try to cook them again tomorrow! This time, I'll follow the recipe :)
