Just because it's homegrown in JH doesn't mean it has to be good.

Agreed!  But such judgments, either way, are more credible when based on actual visits.
In any case, sorry for the snark.  The hour is late.

Like I said, i based my opinion on past visitsand on what a poster or two said. As per the Ambroisa, my experience with them was not through espresso 77.

I have a friend who recently spoke with someone from Ambrosia also requesting lower fat items.  This seems to be in the works.  In the meantime, I've noticed that E77 has grown a lot in terms of food offerings since they opened.  For the small business that they are, they're working quite hard to please all as much as possible by offering a decent variety of items ranging from sweet and savory pastries, soups and salads, wraps and sandwiches, bagels and croissants, cereal bars and even your basic hard boiled egg.  They also have a small basket of apples and bananas for those opting for fruit.  All this, and then add entertainment and small art viewings to the mix.  Pretty amazing for such a small shop.

My husband is not a coffee or tea drinker, so on our first visit to E77, he was a bit disappointed that they didn't sell Coke.  Imagine my surprise when I spotted Coke bottles on their display!  Wow...I'm actually excited about Coke.  Their amazing coffee is my first priority though!

It's the ONLY bench in the nabe.  I leave my sofa, walk 13 blocks, just to sit there with my coffee.

I find the pastries at e77 delicious. The scones have such creative ingredients and the texture is perfect. I also had a wrap for lunch one weekend that for all it's seeming lack of ingredients (just roast beef and cheese) was absolutely delicious.

Good, my space for me. I happen to like Starbucks, and I'm not into this E77 vs. Starbucks thing.  Personally I take Lety's over either on of them, if it gets down to it.  Their speciality is pastry and I think the coffee is pretty good, plus you can get mini-pasteries is you want to sample without consuming a lot of calories.  Same way i'm not into Arunee Thai vs. Rice avenue, although i like Chao Thai hands down over either. or any of the south american restaurants vs. each other. There is room for all. I can appreciate everything the hood has to offer.

It's true.  For a little teeny place they've picked some tasty food.  I'm loving the scones and finally tried a wrap (never been a fan of wraps) and loved it.  Went back the next day and got it again for lunch: chicken, spinach and feta.

But when it comes to dessert with your coffee, Lety's is tops.  I'm thrilled that we have so many great choices... FINALLY.

I've purchased the turkey sandwiches for my mom from Starbucks, and she loves them.  In my opinion, both Espresso 77 and Starbucks offer items to please most folks.  I'm not necessarily a person that sits down to eat lunch.  Breakfast is my game, so when I go out with other people, I enjoy being able to go somewhere where I can order my coffee, bagel or muffin while they enjoy their sandwich, soup, wrap, etc.
