I don't think many people get that this "game" is like two other games out there. the first is "tag you're it" which kids can play FOR HOURS. the second game and it's more of the one that gets played when it's on target, is an actor's exercise to play off of the last thing said to you and volley it back.

"Control + Click" on the photo; a menu will open; click on "Open Image In New Tab; highlight the URL of the isolated image and "Command + C" (cut) the URL; then place that URL into the box at the bottom of each page in JHL where it says Quick Reply; click preview; when the preview comes up, highlight what you have inserted in the box and click on the image icon above the box.

Foobah I just finished renovating my kitchen this December. I want to hear what you're going to do in yours. I love this stuff even though it was torture to go thru. Next break I have I still want to put up a tile back splash between upper/lower cabinets. I love love love my granite countertops and maple cabinets. Here's two photos:

You folks are so lucky to have such big kitchens. I've got one of those kitchens, that when you're pregnant, you have to go out of the kitchen and come back in just to turn around!
But it sure is easy to keep clean. I redid mine in 2001. I replaced everything including the cabinets, the floor, the sink, refrigerator, self-cleaning ovens, and the washer. I got so crazy doing it I even replaced a perfectly good microwave and toaster to match the decor! I wouldn't go through that again if you paid me . . . well . . . maybe . . . if you paid me enough!

My countertops will be IceStone (http://www.icestone.biz/), my floor will be partly the existing hardwood and partly Marmoleum, which is a natural lineoleum made from linseed oil: http://www.themarmoleumstore.com/Default.aspx?MenuId=249

I've got a house full of doggies today, so I would need something that size to be able to share with everyone! Oh! How will I ever change the linen in my bedroom with all of them paying tug with the sheets. I guess I'll just have to wait until tomorrow.
I had a blessing this week. I was 4 days late getting my car inspected and I DIDN'T get a ticket! I have to find a way to remember when it's due.

Been busy outside in the sun and cleaning up from the recent construction work.
Might stay up to try to have LW for the day. Might crash.
Gardening yesterday. Sooo good for the spirit! We made a little pathway with reclaimed bricks. No money involved, just spirit and sweat.
The chives, lemon thyme, parsley, lemon balm, oregano, pineapple mint, valerian (looks good, not useful) and worm wood all survived. We think the tarragon did, too, and maybe the lavender.
Strawberries have blossoms on them.
Basil planting and different kind thyme in the the near future.
Yay, Spring!
PS The garden is public, over at Saint Mark's on the 82nd St. side, to the left of the door. Feel free to pick herbs judiciously, or, better, come and dig with us!

ecg I love gardening. Where I grew up in Jersey, we had carrots, baby watermelon, strawberries, grape vine, lettuce in our back yard. Some times tomatoes. Around our woods there were wild edible blueberries. And my grand parents had a peach tree, grapes, tomatoes. I miss that.

I don't have the patience.
I have a doll collection, started by my great-grandmother that I am hoping to leave for a granddaughter—if I ever get one! If not I will have it sold. That might be worth something. My prime objective now, is to get rid of books, records, business clothes, all the chotchkies I've collected from around the world, boxes of picture frames . . . all the clutter. I've even got a 4 drawer, hanging-file cabinet that I am going to weed out useless crap. I've been in my apartment since 1964 and I have every stupid piece of paper I ever got from any of the landlords and DHCR. I have boxes of sports memorabilia, historic newspapers and magazines—all kinds of 'stuff' that my children don't have any interest in—so out it goes!
I might start putting some of the stuff on freecycle (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freecyclenewyorkcity/).
This clutter is driving me crazy.

I'm a huge fan of Craig's List. I've sold a bike, an air purifier, a small microwave.... all sold in less than 8 hours. And the people came to me and picked up what they bought and paid cash (which I had stipulated).

At the moment all the contents of a 7' bookcase AND a 2 drawer lateral file cabinet are strewn around the apartment. No room is safe, save the bathroom. Going to a meeting of JH Green this AM. At Starbucks - 8:30. I was in Novo last night, as detailed somewhere else on the site, and met a friend who is an active member of helping the neighborhood get greener. He convinced me, notoriously not an AM person to be there with a friend who was founding member of Friends of Travers Park.

I had Verizon here for 4 1/2 hours yesterday. It seems the main box to my whole apartment is buried in the bottom of the one closet I hadn't planned on tackling until next year! WHAT A MESS! But, at least I have my phone service back. And just to sing their praises, T-Mobile gave me a couple hundred extra minutes FREE to see me through not having a landline for a week. They were such a joy to work with. BTW, folks, that wire charge is so well worth paying on your Verizon bill. They practically rewired my whole place.

Anyone can place their "recent" photos of anything at all. But it must be within the JH boundaries and not necessarily in the Historical District. Prefferably of buildings and scenes of panoramic value but it could also be of people walking around that would inspire any sentiments. JH does have it's own and varied fauna and its diverse inhabitants can sometimes cause laughter and sadness.

I'm sure one of the mods can help. I generally use the {img}http://www.somesite/image.gif{/img} code, where {=[ and }=]. I upload my pictures to either flickr or photobucket and that way I never have to worry about overloading my hard drive with stuff I really don't plan on keeping forever.

Than NYCmac...I'll try it that way. I have a unnecessary & ridiculously huge and hard drive I found on an IBM server that I hooked up externally. I have to fill it up with something ??? . But you are right, junk and temporary files should stay away from your primary HD...

It was the LA (Louis Armstrong) house in Corona. She thought it was you who went, but I'm the one who posted about it. All I can say is not only was that guy a great musician, he also had very cool taste in kitchen design. '70s turquoise laquered wood cabinets, custom made stove, a sub-zero fridge, and a paper towel holder that disappears into the wall. ..

Apologies to all. Yes, the Louis Armstrong house. I loved the kitchen and all the wallpaper.
Sump pump - well, many years ago, shortly after Thanksgiving, my son and I were awoken by a geyser of water shooting up out of the kitchen sink! It was raining out and whatever the problem with the building's aging water lines and downspouts had caused a mini Old Faithful.
After hours of bailing, disinfecting, etc. We blocked the drain, put a heavy kettle with rocks in it over the drain and had the plumber come.
The son is a very cautious person and went out and purchased a sump pump in case it happened again. It hasn't, but there are very strange sounds from that sink still.
It was an awful experience and we still had to go to work in the morning. Ugh.

My Mom and (Aunt) Lucy, (Uncle) Satchmo's wife, had a weekly poker game that rotated from house to house. Although I was only around 7 and my sister around 10, I vividly remember the night my Dad was out of town and Mom took us to the game at their house. (Uncle) Satchmo played games with us and then he and 2 of his friends took us out for dinner to a restaurant on either Northern or Queens Boulevard for fried chicken and French fries. (I wish I could remember the name of the place.) I didn't realize the significance of this until many, many years later when I heard him retell the story at my wedding about how 3 black men took 2 little, red-haired, white girls out for fried chicken at a family-style restaurant and how they were at first unwilling to seat us until they realized who he was. Whenever that poker game was at our house, Aunt Lucy always brought my sister and me a board game to keep us busy so the cussing-related game could be played without interruption.
The Armstrongs will always have a very special place in my heart for the kindnesses and love they shared with us. My darling Aunt Lucy especially, for all those forbidden words we learned on Tuesday nights.

I didn't know the Armstrongs at all, but once held the door for Mrs. A when she was going into Clark's. Later my mom told me who she was. I was really thrilled.
One of the goals of my life is to be as wonderful as those 'grown ups' I admired as a child. It's so hard to tell if you are making any kind of positive difference in this era and I'm pretty discouraged right now.
I am friends with the grand daughter of my 'Auntie Mame'. This woman would let me stay over at her house when my uncle and 4 horrible cousins* would come to stay, she took me to the theater and out to posh restaurants, and was one of the wittiest people I've ever known.
Fortunately the grand daughter has inherited the wit, and I am thrilled that, even though I'm 20 years older than she, we are equals and friends.

Actually, I really can't. Frankie is still in bandages. He had an awful bleed on Sunday night. If he doesn't put that paw down by Monday he'll have to go back on IV antibiotics. It had been almost 4 months of having him be his playful puppy self and it is so easy to forget about that damned cancer crapola. It caught me really off guard. Not even a TIGHT tourniquet stopped the bleeding. I didn't even stop at red lights on the way to the vet. Someday I am going to get stopped by a cop. My only hope is that he will be a dog lover and provide me an escort when he sees Frankie and me covered with blood.

Bachata is a type of music that was considered to be sort of "lowly" by many Dominicans because it was usually heard in the "bayus" or lowly bars of the "barrios" of the DR. Themes usually touched the subject of relations gone bad...heck, we used to call it "musica de cuernos" :2funny: But since it was mostly the Dominicans that came from many of these barrios they also imported the music and for a while in the 90's it was really popular among their community. Still is among the Dominicans and many of the Central Americans. The music became more refined as more capable musicians started to record bachata (just as the case of merengue). The dance is only 3 or 4 steps but it's simplicity (not unlike merengue) makes it a popular type of dance and music among the smaller queens clubs and many in the Heights.

I braved the heat. Me and my trusty dog. We went and had pizza for lunch (in the City), then off to my class at mac on 14th Street (Casey hung out under the table) then the dog run at Union Square, then dinner at an outdoor cafe (Sullivan St. Cafe) where dogs are very welcome. We're both tuckered out.

for $99 you can go once a week for a whole year and have a personal one to one class about anything you want to learn. they have classes that you can pick or you can show up with a list of questions and jump from iphoto editing to numbers to blah blah blah.... you get the point. Extremely well worth the money. After having windows OS for a decade I had lots of questions at first and they got me on board really fast. Now I'm just taking an occassional class for the hell of it. And the 14th Street store is great.

Not cheap, mind you. There are also resorts in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. But the luxury ones are all in Argentina and Chile as is the best powder. The season is from June to around the end of September the first week of October. But if you can imagine boarding a plane at JFK in 103 degree weather in the middle of August, and disembarking in frigid weather and heading for the slopes . . . I DID IT IN 1988. It was number 26 on my Bucket List. Thank G-d, I was religious about doing one from my list (which I started in Junior High School) every couple of years.
The BBQ was such fun. Doggies, doggies everywhere! Well behaved doggies, too, that is until the boomers started! We all got soaked, well-fed, duly inebriated and ended up with sore jaws from all the laughing. There was enough food for a small invading army; hamburgers, Kosher hot dogs, Italian sausage, marinated chicken breasts, dried lamb lung, salads, Key Lime pies, ice cream sammies with whipped cream and cherries, soft drinks, hard drinks, beer, and, of course, all the fixins! Oh, yeah, the dried lamb lungs were exclusively for the doggies.

I wish I was selling some apartments...I am waiting for some stupid amendments for my main source of units in Corona. They did the same thing 2 years ago...
It's summer so I'm busy with the Asbestos and Lead in paint work right now..I only have a few available properties...I also have one in buddy's building but we are waiting to see if we are going to rent it or sell it.

Astoria has so many new restaurants lately. I can't keep track. I still want to check out the new wine bar.

I usually don't go to new places unless someone says it was good. I have gone to a few in Astoria but I find them to be hit and miss as with most places. I think a lot of these places either try to hard to look good and miss on the food or vice versa. Whenever I'm doing renovations at Acropolis I will stop and have a glass of wine and a snack at 718Restaurant. I like the decor and they are Located on 35-01 Ditmars Blvd. The food is good, nicely mixed menu but I never go there for dinner, just a quick stop on my way out of a job site. It's really a nice looking place and when it's not too humid out I'll sit outside.

I ended up going to Astoria Park with a beach chair and a book and the dog instead. Sat in the shade and stared at the water mostly. HEAVEN.
I've gone to the Chinese massage place on Ditmars in Astoria though and I thought they were great especially an hour massage for $50. Can't beat that.

I'm not sure if it's monkey's or Chimps, but a freind was telling my they have evolved to the point where they are not only making basic tools, but they are using these tools as weapons in battles with other monkey / chimp clans. The Planet of the Apes may not be far off.

Monkeys have a long way to go....this picture below proves it. These creatures are still using windows '95 and '98...as you can appreciate their laptop is probably running on 32 RAM and who knows, they probably haven't discovered internet let alone Broadband. See, there is no ethernet cable hooked up and you know that dinosaur of notebook has no built in 802.11 adapter. So much for that theory!! :D

Wow, feeling sick. I felt fine this morning but noticed a pain in my left shoulder joint and my left knee as well. Weird, ??? I went to the movies, shopped a bit for my son and came home. Since we are engaged in the wine thingy I would like to recommend HOB NOB as an affordable and delicious table wine. The Merlot is awesome, the Shiraz is good but doesn't have the kick and the Pinot Noir wont disappoint either. I tried their Chardonnay, I wont buy it again. It's French so I was surprised at the affordable price, surely much better than many wines I have consumed at 2 or 4 times the price so...HOB NOB is TLW(well, at least MY TLW)... :D

I wouldn't know, I took the pic from one of the travel WS. I've been to Cancun but I stayed at the Omni and Gran Oasis. The Omni has one that look almost identical but it has a squared front instead of the curved and tiled one in the picture.

"Ganador" would refer to a male while female would be "ganadora". The translation has a specific meaning depending on the sentence structure. "Ganando" would really mean winning and "gano" is to have won as in past tense. When you "gain" it takes a bit of a twist and could mean to receive or increase and would be from the verbs "recibir" or "subio". Anyway, bottom line is you got it wrong dear. You put a coma after "No, soy ganador / a". When you put the come you mistakenly disagreed with my statement and you basically stated that "NO" you are not a loser but a winner and of course we all know that to be false. What you meant to say was "No soy ganadora!". Which could also be written "Yo soy la perdedora" or I am the loser (perdedora meaning a female loser)

Actually, I had a blow out on my way to South Street Seaport today. Only by the grace of Wepwawet I was blessed with a tire shop 1 block away and soon happily on my way. Interestingly, I took my oldest son who is visiting from Vero Beach to the YankeeStore by the Seaport. After buying a few items including saving 50% off some items ;D I looked up at the TV and I think it was the 2ND inning. The game was 2 - zip Yankees. My son was excited but I told him we had to get going. We took a ride to City Island and went to Lobster Box.
I had a gigantic order of King crab legs :smitten: and while my posse was ordering some desert I stepped to the bar and order a drink.. When I looked up at the TV the gods had smile on me again! Ninth inning, Yankees 15, Mets...OMG!

Here is an insert of an email I received. Finally, someone is doing something about the abuse (mainly Chase) in forcing prices down. I discourage anyone trying to sell an apartment or property from allowing the buyer to use Chase as their lender. They are actually taking a totally fair market sale and forcing it down 5% to 10% putting the seller in a position of disadvantage. Lucky for me our sponsors aren't taking it and are simply saying NO. If you want a fair appraisal's go to Wells Fargo or Band Of America. HSBC will turn down the deal if there is any kind of law suits (even a simple slip and fall) and TD Bank just started doing their own loans so I don't know where thky are going with it. Sellers, BEWARE!!! Find out who the buyer is using before accepting their offer. Explain to them what is happening and if they insist in using them make sure there is a clause in your contract that obligates them to use your preferred lender if theirs turn the loan down or under appraises the property. I'm talking about logically well priced properties that otherwise appraise fairly within the area.

Dear Fellow REALTOR®,
During the past two months, we have heard from many of you regarding problems with appraisals that are causing deals to be delayed or canceled altogether. I assure you that we on the NAR Leadership Team are experiencing the same problems in our businesses. In fact, VP & Liaison to Committees Steve Brown recently shared his experiences in Ohio on the Voices of Real Estate blog.

Let me update you on what NAR is doing to resolve these problems quickly.
On Monday, June 29th, I will be in New York to meet with the Deputy Attorney General and his staff who worked directly on the Home Valuation Code of Conduct. I plan to share our concerns, as well as your stories, and ask for their assistance in resolving any problems related to the HVCC.
On Tuesday, June 30th, I will travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency to discuss ways we can work with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and lenders to ensure that appraisals are accurate.
We will keep you posted on the outcome of these meetings. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out the following resources on Realtor.org for more information on the HVCC and how appraisal problems are impacting the real estate market:

Had to cancel a short cruse that was leaving today at 5PM from NJ. I was taking my mom and last Saturday she became ill and the Dr says she has a Vertigo. My kid also became ill with some throat thing and flu symptoms. NOW I have some head cold and runny Nose. Unbelievably I purchased Trip insurance since this was a last minute...Thank goodness it would have put a small dent in the wallet - Anyway, Rose will be happy to know I will be running lose in her building for the next 2 or 3 weeks... :D

I accomplished next to nothing today as I waited FIVE hours in line at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Whitestone. To add insult to injury, the parking lot now charges (I heard it used to be free). On my way in I noted that 3 hours would cost me a grand total of $4, which seemed almost reasonable. I saw that there were additional charges for extra hours but I never considered that I would be there more than 3 hours. Because they kept me waiting interminably, my parking fee was $10.
Also I got lost on my way back here, but that was sort of ok because I took an interesting photo of a new building on the corner of College Point Blvd and Roosevelt, which I will post in the Real Estate forum.
Not only did I waste an entire day, I also have less money than I had this morning. Can we change this thread title to the Biggest Loser? Then I will certainly win.

My sister is so sweet. She sends me so many links that I usually ignore them. But once in a while she gets it just right. I started doing my Xmas Shopping. I'm glad my family decided to do the grab bag officially as of last year. We typically have a overkill buffet style (everyone brings something-even when you tell them not to). This year I'll have 25+ people coming so I will enclose the deck and place a 10x20 tent that I can attach to the deck therefore increasing the area where people can hang out. I have it worked out in my mind but as you know...Murphy's Law...We'll see...This is going to be a special year since we have family coming from Mass - Ohio and Fl. The tent will be used to smoke cigars, play Dominoes, drink JW and of course "Hablar Mierda" hehe...Can't wait. :smitten:

If any of you guys know someone that is unemployed, has at least 4 months to go on their unemployment and is interested in RE please give them my email or cell number. I am looking for 2 or 3 people that speak English and a hopefully a 2ND language (it doesn't matter if the 2ND language is French or Martian). I am looking to train agents as "Buyer's Agent" - I will pay for school, help them out a bit with a stipend if they need and pay for their license. There are thousands of agents out there...unfortunately they think they know the market and may not be willing to "LISTEN" to guidance. If one of them do not speak a 2ND language is fine as well...as long as they have good people skills. I will provide training and laptop...I'll train them in making ads but they must have
BASIC COMPUTER SKILLS". If they have a car it is a plus but not required.

If anyone is looking for extra income "part time"...I'm willing to do the same as well BUT - they must be employed. My point is that it must be a person with an income that is able to pay for their basic needs while getting started in the RE business. It may take 5 to 12 months before someone sees any money in the industry and I don't want Drama 2 months into the voyage...

Well. I ordered a cake for my youngest son's Birthday at Nitin by Roosevelt on the Elmhurst side. It was a Dominican B'day Cake so In my opinion it can be hit and miss. I was very happy with the cake, it was beautiful and very delicious. The larger square cake was made with Dulce de leche filling and the smaller round cakes were made with fresh strawberries. For those not familiar with Dominican cakes it is made with a sudo traditional french sponge cake. I have eaten it many times and personally feel most of them are over rated but when it is done correctly it can be some of the most delicious Birthday cakes You can get. So, two thumbs up Nitin for making a great Bday at a very affordable price...

I have to admit it was quite a busy cake...hehe - The kid loves Elmo so Sesame street did the trick for him.

I have an idea for a sandwhich...
It would be called the "All American Steakhouse"...
You can use your choice of a hero or sourdough (or whatever bread would work better for this application). You would use the tenderloin sliced and cooked the way the client wants it (medium, medium well) and then topped with a half ratio of home fries and creamed spinach spread on both side of the bun. To make the sandwhich more affordable I guess you could use the strip side of the t-bone but it wouldn't be as tender unless tenderized.

It was first discovered in 1922 in Brazil, and named by Thomas Lincoln Casey, Jr. An entomologist at New York's Museum of Natural History thought that, because there was not a Latin name or Brazilian name associated with this weevil, it was probably named Zyzzyva as a practical joke to place it in a prominent ending position in many guides and manuals.

I took a walk up 37th Ave toward Corona and noticed that the building that used to house the Benjamin Moore paint store seemed to be completely empty. At the very least, the store is not there at the moment but I didn't take a close look at the rest of the building. Just renovating? Or gone completely?

btw, I was wrong about this. I was looking at a brand new, empty building one block further up and I thought it was the one that used to have the paint store in it. The paint store is still there.

It's too soon to actually get the last word, but I just want to wish all my fellow JH Residents the best in the New Year. We may not agree about 34th Ave and Diversity Plaza, but we agree that we're going to miss visiting this site to find out new restaurants and what's going on and who is opening in the old space and where we can find a decent haircut! I wish everyone continued health and hope to bump into you on the street some day if I ever leave my apartment again. Stay well!

Amen JH Resident. Agreement was not always the goal in my personal postings. The ability to say one's thoughts in an open air, though online, forum was invigorating and something that gave a good deal of insight and pleasure throughout the years. None of the other venues online has even come close to the level of thought provoking discourse that has occasionally happened here over the years. Wishing everyone well in their new exchanges.
And for the record, tweeting and Trump go together in my mind. Let's not go there please! Can Shekar get a new outlet for his non tweety constituents? Town crier style?
