I was looking for some news on the shooting this evening on 37th Ave and 94th St. (my accountant's ofc is right there). Didn't find anything on google, but yikes:

My understanding is that we like it this way, and if not you are a wealthy transplant trying to gentrify the neighborhood.

Lol. Ouch! Then again, I mean, if 37th and 94th street wants to gentrify, then have at it!

I think ‘Violence Plagued’ is hyperbolic.
But when I am out and about, there is a palpable undercurrent of tension, and controlled chaos.
We love Tacos Morelos on 37th Ave, but we always eat inside, away from the street.
In the past I would read these crime stories about JH, and say to myself ‘why are they in that area at 3:30am. Or why were they hanging around Roosevelt Ave at 2:45am’.
I felt like the crime was separate and removed from my immediate (historic district) -now the crime is happening during ‘normal’ hours and it seems to be happening everywhere.

I seem to recall the first year I moved here someone was murdered on the doorstep of their apartment block in the Historic District.
And when I got here, I was immediately warned that around 90th Street was gang territory and dangerous.
I am not convinced that anything has really changed.

Crime is down, historically.
Or do we want to go back in time to the Giuliani days?

And for what it's worth, comparing this year to last year is entirely pointless, so don't bother.

absolutely.
anyone who lived in NYC in the 70s, 80s or 90s (maybe the sixties, but i was an infant/toddler then) can tell you crime was much higher in "the good old days."
