there's signage up outside the old medical supply store at Roosevelt and 75th, and it's going to be a restaurant called Gury's (or maybe Gary's -- it's written in script). looks like it could be nice and it's definitely quite large. they've installed porthole windows and replaced or cleaned the brickwork. could be close to opening.

Great! That place was an eyesore. Almost anything well maintained will be an improvement.

I literally came back on here after like two years of dormancy to find out the 411 on this place, having just noticed the new facade today. Having a second kid does terrible things to your priorities. Hahaha.

You've been missed. Congratulations on #2!

If so, it'll probably do ok.

i'd agree. the Asian food courts in Elmhurst have done well. eager to see the offerings.

Actually, the elmhurst food court (HK Food Court on 45ave) has been so dead due to the pandemic, that only a handful of vendors are operating as of now :( Unlike in Flushing with more foot traffic, this location is more off the beaten path and I feel so bad for the businesses. Gury's is on the main road, so should have no issues attracting customers.
-
I feel like by "food court" they probably mean a steam table - not a mixture of tenants. The sign says Bakery and Restaurant.
-
I walked by tonight. The brand new shutters have already been heavily graffitied.
This is why we can't have nice things.

Yep. Not to mention the fact that there is seemingly no one in this neighborhood that is a skilled graffiti artist. There's the person who paints the giant heads, but they seem to be a one trick pony.

You're totally right. All we get is their name/tag scrawled messily over the gates. Elsewhere in the city, I have seen magnificent graffiti art that belongs in a gallery.

I have not been in yet but saw today that Gury's is open! Looks nice from outside.
-
Saw bakery in the front and steam table in the back

New bakeries...just what we need! Seriously, how does anyone stave off diabetes and heart disease around here? Temptations everywhere.
-
First world problem? ;)
Well better than another chain or a bank. There's a steam table in the back, so it's good for lunch/dinner too.

I heard it was same owners as la Abunduncia. This is totally unconfirmed and this is just a message board so i don't feel so bad spreading hearsay. Can anyone confirm?
-
Yes, same owner as La Abundancia across the street. I met the owner - he invited me to hang two of my photos (one in each of the two businesses), as part of my current exhibition "Queens People Eating".
