Title: Creating Swim Two Birds
Post by: Stew on December 15, 2015, 11:09:24 PM
This thread is about creating a restaurant in Jackson Heights.

After a lot of hassles with local government, we are on our way.

We intend to document this journey, and are deciding how much will be on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. If you have a preference, let us know.

If you are interested in opening a restaurant and want to talk, hit me up, or ask a question below.

Can't help but notice that our Chef de Cuisine Stew has beena bit silent  as of late.  And I was looking forward to those promised articles related to slave labor seafood. Was he booted from the forum?  Stew you there?

C'mon ptbass, no need to stir things up again.  Let sleeping birds lie.

I was actually looking forward to those articles.  And so were others I believe.   It's not an area I am familiar with.

Hmmm madlyn,  not sure exactly where you're seeing the sarcasm.   Chef De Cuisine is an honorary title.   And as I mentioned, I am actually interested in reading those articles. The problem with interpreting text online is that you may perceive sarcasm when  I wasn't intending any.  Now yes, I may have shared in a joke or two on another thread, but this one is clean and I have been wondering where he's been as of late.

Yes, let's leave the acrimony in 2015.

I'm not sure why you're assuming he was "silenced", his last post here was December 22nd, on the restaurant's a Facebook page it was November 3rd. I don't think he was silenced on his own Facebook page.

Considering the restaurant owner is busy creating a restaurantit's far more likely the guy is just busy. He received a lot of support on here about the troubles he was having, as well as it being a place to gripe about the challenges he was experiencing. Now that the project is moving forward, I wouldn't find it at all surprising if more time is being devoted to the actual work of opening a restaurant and less is being devoted to posting to this forum and FB/Instagram/etc.

The Swim Two Birds liquor license application appears on the Community Board's agenda for tomorrow's meeting (http://www.cb3qn.nyc.gov/file_depot/0-10000000/0-10000/2480/associatedFiles/Agenda+January+21$2C+2016.pdf) (1/21)

Unfortunately, the deadline has already passed for community members to request to speak, but we can show up and clap our support for their application.

I'm surprised oceanic boil isn't on this list. Didn't 'Maggie' say they still had to finalize some things regarding a liquor license?  Still not fully convinced that 'the boil' is happening.

They must be moving along.  They have a job ad posted for server/hostess http://www.indeed.com/cmp/Oceanic-Boil-Restaurant/jobs/Server-Hostess-acfa87a63c04c856?q=Waitress

Oh good!  I stand corrected.  And it looks like it's a cajun boil.

SWEEEET!

London Lennies on Woodhaven Blvd does an annual crawfish boil, and while it tasted fresh, we all found it a bit on the bland side.  Hopefully this will be better.

Thank you toddg I'm very sorry that I did not see your post until now.  I definitely would have wanted to speak and at the very least to show up in support.

Kuddos to the owners for going through all the bureaucracy to open their place here.  At the end of the day it's great to see that people believe in our neighborhood and would open a business here.  Can't wait to give it a taste!!

It sounds like they are also looking out for the neighborhood by denying others a liquor license based on the  possibility of harm. Too bad they cant weed out good from bad in a more expedient manner.

it would be nice to have some variety in the area. Brunch sounds good.
